Should OWS become a Corporation?? After all ... Corporations are people now. |
|
If OWS was a corporation, maybe we could by stock in it.
And OWS could FUND PACs with no disclosure requirements.
And individuals could give those OWS PACs unlimited dollars.
Hummmm ....

I don't believe that there should be ANY corporatization, profit or non profit in this movement. It just goes against the grain. Not to mention if someone's name is on the documents of incorporation, their head would eventually be in the guillotine's path.

Not organized for a business purpose and issuing stock, a C Corp., but a non-profit or one of the 501 type organisations. If, as has been reported, they are accepting donations and have opened an account at a credit union they better be accounting for every penny taken in and dispersed. Someones name and SS# or a Federal Tax ID# is required for that account, and you can bet the IRS and Homeland Security will be taking an interest in that money. Sucks but it's the way it is.
This ain't no lemonade stand on the parkway.
Al Capone was imprisoned for violating IRS regs., not his multiple other crimes.

4. Agree ... if Corporations can do all that they can currently do, become one. |
|
And as for "non-profit", maybe... or maybe, they could trademark OWS merchandise ... or maybe an OWS job finder path ... a corp with millions, 99%, of stock holders.
agree this is no lemonade stand. The rules are what they are ... can OWS take advantage of the current rules ... that is the question.

6. This isn't about trademarks, or merchandise. |
|
It's totally AGAINST all this corporatization. All of the documents should be held in the creative commons, and not be part of any profit making schemes, lest we become those who we despise.

9. Then it could be prosecuted, fined, have its assets seized |
|
all those bad things that happen to people when they get dragged into the justice system. Corporate person hood is a two edged sword - one of main reasons for in the first place was to ensure that corporations could be prosecuted criminally or civilly.

12. They've received half a million in donations... They need to do something |
|
and incorporating (even as a non-profit) seems the best way to protect their donations and themselves.

13. They should become a PAC, for certain. |
|
I'd contribute.
Becoming a PAC like AARP or something similar is a good idea.
