It's sad that a 60-40 vote is considered a "squeaker."

I doubt the filibuster was meant to be used as it's being used now. Getting 2/3rds of the Senate vote is nearly impossible (and without the wheeling and dealing that had to be done to get all of them on board, it wouldn't have gotten done).

1. I'm convinced that republicans in the House and the Senate won't support anything
they can't take credit for. They don't care what happens to their constituents. They worry about picking up more seats next November.

3. I agree...
but even so, the fact that 60 senators had to vote just to cut off debate seems ridiculous.

2. Filibuster was initially used to preserve slavery and segregation which is why it should be
gotten rid of

4. Thank you for the
mini history lesson. You're right-it SHOULD be gotten rid of if that was the purpose. It seems a LITTLE out-dated.

5. End the filibuster or change its requirements to 55-45 at the least.
Then propose a new bill that fixes problems with the one thats about to be passed.

6. Yeah-that's more reasonable.
I don't think such a large majority should be needed just to go to a vote.

7. It wouldn't matter if Dem leadership had the balls to make Repubs filibuster, then ridicule them
But it really hurts when the media is on their team.
