On the bright side, Byrd can go back to the hospital Wednesday if needed |

On TV they keep referring to the dramatic Christmas Eve vote but that vote will have no drama, needing only 51 votes. Chock full of history, perhaps, but not nail-biting.
The cloture vote--the final 60 vote threshold--is tomorrow.
So if Byrd is ill he won't be needed after that vote.

Clarifying the voting schedule is bad? Hoping Byrd gets treatment, if needed, is bad?

My dad is a year older than Senator Byrd. He recently turned 93. And he could keep up with the best of them in the Senate (although his hearing really sucks): he's still bright-eyed, alert, funny, and goes to the gym to work out 4-5 times a week. And I mean work out: an obsessive cyclist until he flew off and broke a hip at 89, he spends 2 hours of intensive cycling each session. He still drives (yikes!).
I say this only to think, at this time of year, how really blessed I am to still be able to enjoy my father. And also to hope they don't put any more stress on Sen. Byrd.
