'Barry From DC'

Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine received an unusual phone call while taking calls on WTOP's Ask the Governor program Tuesday.

It was President Barack Obama.

Kaine, unaware that caller "Barry from D.C." would be Obama, reacted with surprise when the president said who he was.

"No. Oh, my gosh," Kaine said, laughing.

Obama said he had complaints about Northern Virginia's notorious traffic.

"Rather than go there, I just wanted to say how proud we are of your service as governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia," Obama said.

Obama then said he wanted to wish Kaine and his family "all the best this Christmas season after a terrific round of service."

The president then went on to tell the governor: "We continue to think your wife is probably a little superior to you, as I think people think about the first lady, but you and me have to stick together since we're married to better people."

After Kaine, the current Democratic National Committee chairman, said he was "looking forward to being helpful" to the president, Obama told him to "get back to the calls."

By the time Obama hung up the phone, WTOP was two minutes late for traffic and weather on the 8s.
