I mean I'm watching the game, it's 3:00 into the first quarter and they finally have the ball. What do they do with it? throw a 10 yard pass! They couldn't even get a touchdown in one play, what good are they? They are totally going to lose this game. I believed in this team, man! I bought the hat and the t-shirt and got season tickets.
But now, I'm disilloooosioned! My buddy is sitting next to me, he is a team cheerleader, he loves them no matter what they do - how lame! He's trying to tell me that on the last play, the defense tripped one receiver and is holding another receiver (and the refs are NOT calling any of this crap!), and, to make matters worse, another receiver (who is a perennial discipline problem) ran the wrong route and is standing on the line of scrimmage by the sideline, and that the receiver ten yards out was the only open guy. But I'm not listening to this perfectly rational explanation because being a disillusioned fan makes me so badass. If the quarterback showed "leadership" I tell my buddy, we would have had a touchdown. He just rolls his eyes in exasperation. Check and mate, me!
I unsubscribed from the team email list and told them it was because I believed in their ability to win games, but they disappointed me. They tried to tell me some crap about how even the best football teams run more than one play on their scoring drives, and how the first game of the season has "barely started". But this team was supposed to be different with its flashy new first round draft pick quarterback right out of college. He was supposed to represent "change". To me "change" means chucking the ball way down field and having it be caught for a touchdown, every time. Anything less than that is "more of the same".
I'm going to change the channel to ESPNBC and watch Ned Stults talk about how disappointed he also is with this team.

3. Here at DU we are seeing the love of the back up QB |
|
with the back up QB being the other Dems who didn't get elected president. Every fan loves the back up QB.

4. True. Terry Hannraty and Earl Morall were always popular. But there were a lot of folks... |
|
that didn't bother to watch when they didn't like the QB. They're not loyal.

9. It's one game, you don't destroy your season by suffering too many injuries and the like |

by playing every game like it's the play offs. You play the game hard but you remember you have many more to play.

11. Very true. It's a long season. |
|
But when you have good field position, you play smashmouth football and get a lead while the wind is at your back.

I would take it further to suggest that many are like the fans that are convinced that every year their team will win the championship and if they don't they demand the coach and all the players get fired. You can't convince them that it's not realistic to think your team will win the championship every year. Sometimes you have to be happy they made the playoffs or if the talent isn't there that they just played hard.

5. Yeah, but sometimes people are justified if certain plays are not used or certain players |
|
not getting off the bench.
Let's face it - a lot of folks on our team did not give 100%.

But I get your analogy and it's a very good one.
