Edited on Wed Dec-23-09 10:52 PM by Peacetrain
as Senator Harkin said.. this is a starter house.. it is a HUGE start.

It will be really interesting to see what Pelosi and Reid hammer out in the final bill.

We had to do a lot of back and forth to get it this far, through both houses.. and they did it.

I am just amazed.. they did it.

Son of a gun..THEY DID IT!

5. Well, I guess I'm one of them, by your definition.
Just because it has the tag "health care reform" does not prove it is.

House bill is a somewhat good start. Senate, not so much.

A meme I've tried to get taken up here for some time:
IT'S THE CORPORATIONS, STUPID!

10. You're just as bad as "them"
You could've left it at K&R but yet you chose to add a snarky comment. You're no better. You are fueling the fire.

It's fine to disagree, and it's fine to be against this administration and some of it's policies. I have certainly expressed my dissatisfaction many, many times. Nothing wrong with that. But some of these silly games and name-calling have gone a bit far. It's no longer productive from either side. Disagree, fine. Yell and scream, fine. But I've become very annoyed with the name-calling and the judgments.

12. Starter House?
Harkins analogy is stupid. A starter house is something that is affordable and the equity can be used to upgrade later. This health care bill does not make things affordable for either the consumer or the taxpayer. Massive subsidies to the insurance companies (who shave off 20-30% in non medical related payouts) is not an affordable or sustainable measure.

I've been a Harkin fan since 1992.

32. More like a pup tent.
The one bright spot in this, however, is that more people are waking up to just how badly our system is broken. We will never see real change until we reform the way we elect our officials. As long as corporate money is allowed to have so much influence, nothing will change.

It's a sellout to corporations (at least the Senate version) that will get hung around their necks.

19. But the American way now is to get it all and get it NOW!
The people of the United States have become so obsessive and compulsive they require instant and total gratification in anything they decide is a necessity.

28. This isn't healthcare reform in any sense...
it's more like Insurance Profit Protection & Enhancement than any true reform...once again, we've been duped...sad chapter in American history I'm afraid.

30. The bill could be all about gutting puppies and as long as it was labeled "Healthcare
Reform" then people would pretend it is.

I never heard of a starter house with a partial ceiling, no floor, one wall, no utilities and in the flood zone.

This is more like we bought some undeveloped property sight unseen for way over market value that includes a very hefty monthly maintenance fees and a Gestapo like neighborhood association hell bent on running us off while stealing out property.
