I feel a huge sense of pride in being a Democrat this morning. |
|
To think that this President and this Congress have passed such a historical vote gives me goosebumps. They have overcome the odds and pushed on through opposition and obstruction and stuck it out to bring health care reform to the people. It is a momentous day for this country.

At least something was done and hopefully the final bill will be a little bit better.

14. See, now that's a good attitude.... |

... we're Democrats, we're smart human beings and are capable of engaging in complex thought. We should be able to see that while something isn't perfect, it's not inherently evil either. That kind of black or white thinking is something only the GOP can muster.

5. Yes, after so many, many years. |

It took the stunning elections of 2006 and 2008 when not one Democrat incumbent lost and a filibuster-proof margin in the Senate was achieved.

Kill the bill. Forcing people to buy insurance is no more the answer to a failed health care system than forcing people to buy houses is the solution to homelessness.

Far from being a partial solution to be fixed later, this gives them cover to do nothing by saying they did something.
Pure corporate welfare for insurance companies.
Maybe I was very foolish, but during the campaign I thought president Obama was going to pitch single payer.

but I fear this will join the parade of Centrist DLC-stlke mistakes like NAFTA and MFN for China and other "free trade" nonsense; n privatization of public services, deregulation of broadcasting and the financial sector, welfare reform, etc.
But I hope I am proven wrong over time.

22. We don't have time to wallow in an illusion of an acceptable win...what this day should |
|
be encouraging people to do is begin the real fight...
The ground work has been given...now it is honestly up to us to finish this...
Does the average american citizen still possess the courage that once won us our first independence from tyranny and bad governing?
If we do, this is the call to begin showing that courage...

My party has has decided that the role of government is to subsidize a for profit industry. This is a sea change from what the Democratic Party has stood for in the past.
That's the root of my opposition to this bill...
If government is going to subsidize healthcare, it would make far more sense to do it directly, through a single payer system. With this bill we are, in effect, giving taxpayer money directly to the insurance industry, to the tune of 180 billion a year (CBO estimate), so that the insurance industry can assure itself of a profit.
This is a step on the road to a fascist economic system, afaic.
