We All Wanted A Touchdown On That Drive.....
Edited on Thu Dec-24-09 08:06 AM by BlooInBloo
After a strong defensive showing early in the drive, it appeared unlikely that the drive would make any yardage at all. But our offense rallied, and we finally started making progress down the field. In the end, we settled for the field goal. The entire drive was riddled by bad play calling, incompetent blocking, misfiring passing, and butterfingers receivers.

Then there were the geniuses that wanted to go for it on 4th down from the 40 yard line, guaranteeing that we come away with *no* points. Thankfully, the Belichick moment was avoided.

Finally, there were the True Geniuses who decided in their True Genius fashion that the best way to help our team was to join the *other* team. Result: Too bad for the True Geniuses and their worthless team. Nobody's really too sure what they're thinking. Not many much care.

But we came away with points on the board. Three instead of the seven we all wanted, but even the field goal is worth celebrating. Field goals can be built upon. All the drives in my lifetime have come away with a big goose egg to show for it - breaking the drought is a good thing.

Next steps: Work on scoring more points, and make at least some of them touchdowns.

But enough about the Poinsettia Bowl. I hear there's an important vote or something that happened - what's going on there?

1. Nobody "Joined the other team"
Disliking the watered-down Senate bill does not equal supporting the Republicans. Even most of the Dem senators who backed it didn't actually LIKE it. They were FORCED to settle for it.

Hopefully, they'll now join forces to abolish the filibuster so we never have to pass a nothingburger of a bill again.

2. The way I see it, it's just half-time.
Edited on Thu Dec-24-09 08:12 AM by Selatius
We're going to drive in some more when the game starts up in the second half. We'll be damned if we don't try. Their defense is hard, but even the strongest defenses can be worn down with enough time and pressure.

3. My interpretation is that they lost (on purpose) enough yardage to take a knee

in the endzone, giving the enemy a safety. Then, we kick off from our own 20, giving them the ball back (2010 elections) so that we have no further opportunity to score.

But it is a major "victory" because they covered the point spread and collected on their bets (pharma and insurance corps instead of Vegas bookies).

4. And every NFL game is won by a field goal in the last five seconds of the game...

.... EVERYBODY knows that. ;)

A win is a win. Good analogy.

We still have a chance to win.

14. More like a half yard run up the middle on the one.
Maybe a little progress but not a score and the refs may say we lost yardage. I'm worried that what we really did was score a saftey.

Force feeding The American people into a predatory monopoly is not putting points on the board. Stop dreaming that we have sent corporate insurance any message. They are being left with an anti-trust exemption which is the most obvious white flag EVER.

You can't pretend you are serious about regulation and oversight when you state santion a monopoly and price fixing.

We got a bill but it is a bill that makes big insurance too big to fail rather than under the heel of the consumer.

Scoring means we have dealt with affordability, choice, or competion but all of those things have been thrown out and we are left with about 20 million uninsured and a boot on the neck of the people who have no recourse whatsoever other than suck it and pray that one day there will be enough liberals to accomplish more in the face of an even further entrenched vampire class.

15. Telling Reid to give Lieberman everything he wanted....
...was, in fact...a PUNT.
Hence, the rhetoric of "We can go back and fix it later."

The Health Insurance Cartel walk away from this one with a BIG WIN.
Have you checked their stock prices on Wall Street?

19. We want to get rid of the coaches who decided to throw the ball three times from the 1
yard line, in spite of a huge advantage in power and size, then kick a field goal as time expired losing the game by 3 points. Same coaches who thought invading Iraq was a really good idea.
