1. His corporate masters paid for those mandates... |
|
We've got the best government money can buy.
The corporations buy legislation and our politicians box it up with a big ol bow on the package.
It's not that complicated. We don't even have to guess about what's happening. No conspiracy or underlying "game" going on here.
It's very straightforward and obvious royal screwing of the American people.

Kill the bill. Forcing people to buy insurance is no more the answer to a failed health care system than forcing people to buy houses is the solution to homelessness.

2. No, I think he became convinced that |
|
it wouldn't work economically for the insurance companies to be required to cover pre-existing conditions and maintain coverage on sick people if all of the population wasn't covered (i.e., that well people as well as sick people have coverage). Since a single-payer isn't politically feasible at this time, the way they could see to cover nearly everyone was to mandate that everyone be covered and provide subsidys and tax credits to make the coverage affordable.

8. +1. The system wont work if you bring in a lot of sick people without balancing it out by bringing |
|
in a lot of non-sick people at the same time. If you don't balance out the people with pre-existing conditions entering the insurance pool with people who are not sick (at least currently - that doesn't mean they wont get hit by a bus or come down with cancer and need insurance in the future) then you would have a huge increase in premiums.
The ridiculous claim that "he's doing it to make insurance companies rich" is idiotic. Insurance is a risk pool. Sometimes the policy wonks win out because they have to or else the policy wont work.

11. I don't see anyone challenging universal Social Security |
|
That ship has sailed. Any challenge of mandates, with state drivers insurance mandates to boot, is moot.
We NEED a universal pool for insurance and that's a good thing; the bad thing is that it goes only to private ripoff corporations who've proven themselves corrupt in the so-called 'free market' (plus they're an oligopoly and not subject to anti-trust...yet).

13. No, he did it because he realized |
|
he was wrong to be against it during the campaign, as much as it was good populism. And he admitted so very long time ago, when the health care debate just begun. You can't control cost if you don't bring everyone in.
Great people are willing to listen and to admit when they were wrong. Just another quality of this great man.

16. Hilary had proposed mandates during primary. Obama objected to |
|
Mandates at that time.
However, his advisors are heavily from Clinton Administration and most of his legislation is heavily DLC. Maybe he simply had a aha moment.

big insurance's bottom line.
We can't risk them getting screwed by those shady citizens and if the corporations screw the people then that's okay and we'll fix it later.
