I so appreciate how Obama handles terrorism
No more fear mongering and using every capture and every incident as a way to stir up fear and brag. No more grandiosity and grandstanding. What a relief. Almost weekly, some plot is foiled or someone is captured, or something happens and they revisit their plans and improve them. There are surgical strikes when they think they have good intelligence. We are not endlessly hearing about "the enemy" and how he lurks everywhere, even in our nightmares. With all the endless controversy here about how Obama handles this or that issue, I just want to remind people what it was like under Rumsfeld, Bush, and Cheney in this area and what a relief it is to have it done calmly and effectively without a lot of bluster and hyperbole.

His calmness and rationality is exactly what we needed after the terra-hell of BushCo.

I like the fact that we don't see him screaming fire at every incident. I like the fact that we are not seeing knee jerk reactions to everything.

29. Well when you escalate a war to keep us safe at home, and then let this guy
into the United States on an airplane, call it what you want, but it sounds like Bush policy to me. We need to protect our borders from terrorists, first and foremost. You take care of the closest threats immediately. That involves intelligence, paperwork, communication and response. Not just spy on everyone and do nothing.

England denied this guy a visa this year. And his own father warned us about his radicalism. Just like there were enough red flags regarding the Ft. Hood killer. Couldn't we at least err on the side of caution for a change. This doesn't require drone missiles and 40,000 additional fodder. It means the watch list needs to become a do list, but there is a disconnect. I guess no one offered campaign money to Rahm to do something about these two undesirables, or you can bet these incidents would have been prevented.

(The station that my neocon co-workers consider left leaning) The reporter was suggesting that President Obama and Homeland Security is acting too slow to tell passengers what to do. That's right folks it's been less than a day and no one is moving fast enough! :banghead:

I have to fly today and I am leaving much earlier than I planned and I am taking patience with me. It's going to be a looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong day!

I agree, this is so much more intelligent.

One more thing: I believe the phrase "The Homeland" has been largely dropped from the governmental vocabulary. The connotations of that phrase always made me cringe.

26. Although he was on vacation and it's Xmas - he deserves it...
I also felt he was ready to work too. I highly doubt Obama would continue reading 'My Pet Goat' if the situation warranted him getting back to the White House and getting the job done.

Personally I think this guy was a loan wolf who has made some big claims but doesn't have anything to really back it up. Was he a threat - sure anyone is a potential threat. But if he actually had Al-Qeaida backing him he'd probably been a bit more organized and with much more serious artillery.

27. The outreach to the Islamic world, Cairo Speech, etc., has been hugely important.
Also good, and politically savvy, is Obama's evident determination to call terrorism for what it is (e.g. the recent incident on the plane to Detroit) and deal with thugs firmly (e.g. allowing lethal force to deal with Somali pirates).

That's what Pelosi said the day after the election -- it's on video . . . !!!

This is just more argument for the "lesser of evils" --

When are we going to actually move as a people to end all of this insanity?

On "Face the Nation" this a.m., Rep. Peter King admonished Obama for not constantly reminding people about the "evils of Islamic terrorism." He said the Obama administration did not even mention the word "terrorism" for the first three months.

republicans are angry with him for not being terror-terror-terror 24/7.

43. A ten year war against impoverished people while embracing narco state dictator
Edited on Sun Dec-27-09 11:30 AM by scentopine
and adding more dead to estimated one million mostly innocent and very dead civilians, what's another 100,000 dead between centrists, realists and other right winger pragmatists?

Ah - who's counting. By escalating Afghanistan democrats get a chance to prove their war chops - if they win, they can win over more republicans. If they lose well that's a gamble they are prepared to take. After all what does it mean to win or lose? Eventually we will kill enough men women and children that we will run out of people to kill and we can take credit for ending the war.

When you kill an impoverished enemy they will fight back in unconventional ways - including bombs on airplanes. And they know that even a failed attack is a successful one because of the chaos and hysteria it creates, especially among chicken hawks and other war mongers.

The good news about about the rivers of blood and the pestilence we've created - its also the stimulus package for the rest of us. 100,000+ contractors are now fight the wars. In fact it's about 50/50 government to contractor ratio. Our treasury dollars helping people pull themselves up by their own combat boots.

Wall street got their stimulus, and we got ours. Its waiting in Afghanistan for you to collect it.

If there was ever a reason to bring back the draft its so chicken hawk democrats and republicans can go to the source to get their war on.

Twenty something's hopped up on video game violence applauding the slaughter in Afghanistan, impotent against corruption and graft here at home.

OK centrists - all together now - STAY THE COURSE!
