Cenk is not even funny and makes trival commentary on his too-long show.
He wants to be John Stewart, only John Stewart doesn't go for hours and is a comedian. I saw Cenk up there yesterday saying that the left should pressure the Democrats in the same manner as the right, which to me is what you'd do if you want them to go center or epic fail like 2000 (did he forget); there are more strategies than scream and yell, and someone with their own video studio should learn them first.

4. I meant that more as a description ofthe strategy he was advocating.
Sorry; I realized that was ambiguous after I posted it.

5. we need more folks trained in debate, like Cenk. And he seems
dead in the middle of the Democratic party, not an outlier. He takes some conservative stances sometimes, but they are not unusual stances within the Dems. He talks a lot because dead air is the enemy of radio, and that's the first thing you learn.

6. The so called offending video.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Et-hdHe7kew&feature=player_embedded

"In steps Jane Hamsher, with a two-by-four. And she just clocked Rahm Emanuel across the head.
Now how did she do that? She operates a liberal blog, firedoglake. So how does she go after a guy as powerful as Rahm Emanuel?

Well here’s the thing. She’s been in the press a lot lately, for. . . not caving in on health care, and for pushing for real reform, and for pushing for the public option, etc., so she’s got a lot of buzz now.
She went over and got Grover Norquist, who is one of the biggest right wingers in the country — we’ve had him on the program here, he’s the President of Americans for Tax Reform– and they did a joint letter against Rahm Emanuel.

Now wait a minute. You see, this gets everybody’s attention. And everybody’s talking about it online today, and I’m sure in all the media. Oh, it’s actual bipartisan work here by the left wing and the right wing to say Rahm Emanuel’s doing something wrong.
So what’s it on? Well, it turns out he was on the board of Freddie Mac back during 2000 and 2001. They claim he did some things on that board that need to be investigated. And in fact, that an investigator was investigating it — Inspector General Ed Kelley — and he was stripped of his authority by the Obama Administration’s Justice Department.

And that the Justice Department used a bill, or a loophole in a bill, passed by: Rahm Emanuel, before he left congress. And that the statute of limitations is going to run out in 2010 and 2011 for investigating what Rahm Emanuel was doing on that board and what the rest of the board was doing at Freddie Mac."

Someone decided to tell the truth and the centrists are exposed as being as crooked as repubs. It's scary for them.

7. Cenk argues that we should try & move the center of US politics to the left...
which would have the effect of dragging politicians obsessed with finding the center--like Obama--to the left. I don't see what's objectionable about that, save from a conservative Blue Dog sort of Democrat's point of view.

8. You do that by compelling the electorate rather than "pressuring" politicians.
You have to clear the brush for them or they'll find an easier path (or get replaced by someone who will).

10. You can do both.
The wheel that doesn't squeak, is less likely to get grease from politicians.

15. Put three more lef tof center Democrats in the Senate
and you'd have a gigantic shift to the left overall because now a coalition of four Senators in the Democratic would be required to move legislation back to the right. Ben Nelson is no longer the king of the Senate. Joe Lieberman can go fuck himself if he doesn't want to toe the line.

Every Dem over 60 in the Senate pushes the progressive nature of the Senate to the left exponentially.

17. Cenk started in on the cannabalism
after he saw his friend, Hamsher, taking a bite.

For my part, putting cannabals down is the smart move. Keeps 'em from eating our own.

Edited on Sat Dec-26-09 09:56 PM by LoZoccolo
Maybe if he slimmed his act down he could deliver an hour of witty and insightful. But the times I've seen him - which I'll admit isn't much or regularly - he doesn't come up with much that isn't just immediately apparent and/or said by other people.
