1. Because it's a free shot. It was a really dumb attitude to cop

The wing-nuts will go wild over anything, of course, but there's no reason to make their job easier by saying dumb things.

The system allowed someone to assemble a bomb on a plane and set it off. The bomb just didn't work very well.

She is being mis-quoted slightly, in typical RW fashion (The literal "system worked" referred to post-incident actions), but she definitely started out with an attitude that something had gone well... as if we had foiled something.

2. Maybe we should put someone in that role
that doesn't have their head up their...? you know

The Napolitano appointment always smelled a little too political, not so much qualified to me.

3. Well, they have a point.
To even try to claim something "worked" is a stretch. I watched her interview and understood what she was trying to say, i.e., "once we knew something was happening, everyone did what they were supposed to." But you'll never pull that off when obviously something DID happen. I think her tack was a little ill-advised.

5. Incredibly stupid attempt to spin a serious situation...
She opened the door wide for criticism with that one.

17. She was doing the best she could in a horrible situation
She had to maintain calm. With Obama in Hawaii and not available for an immediate statement, she was the face of the administration and the government, she was the one responsible for keeping everyone calm.

10. Because the system did NOT work.
A young Nigerian male buys a one way ticket for cash, has no luggage, no passport, is on some type of watch list, yet he is allowed to board and fly to the US.

I'd say the system failed badly. We don't need new rules, rather follow the rules in place.

Last time I bought a one way ticket, I had the major search, body imaging, etc.

14. Why is the US totally responsible for a guy boarding a plane in Nigeria?
And then Amsterdam? Obviously we need some international cooperation here, and Bush's "go it alone" stupidity probably didn't do much to enhance that.

15. Bush has been gone for a year. Not his problem now.
This guy was on a watch list, the US embassy being warned by his own father. US customs controls who gets on the planes. This was a major break down and sheer luck prevented a huge disaster.

11. It doesn't matter. They (King, Hoekstra) were going crazy before Napolitano
said a word.

They're hoping for a successful attack for partisan political reasons. That should tell everyone all they need to know about these American-hating losers.

12. Maybe because she followed that statement up with "the system failed miserably"?

If we MUST have a "Department of Homeland Security", it should NOT be fronted by a political appointee.

16. Because the system DIDN'T work.
It was dumb luck that he was not able to detonate the bomb and blow up more than 250 people to smithereens.

If the system HAD worked this guy would not have been allowed to buy a one way ticket in cash to a country that he didn't reside in and carry no luggage. Alarm bells should have rung and they didn't. The system failed.

21. Fear. Raw fear.
An attack attempt was averted, but the thing that drives these folks is living in fear of their shadows.

Thus, any sign of a shadow is a "systemic failure", because they got scared.

That being said, I can think of 20-50 different ways of bringing down planes, with a lone passenger, that aren't covered in any of out current "safety theater" measures.

Only a matter of time, and people coming to their senses that the solution to crime... isn't making crime illegal.

23. All the RW has is fear to toss out at every opportunity that arises...
They are bound and determined that they will exploit fear regardless of how it manifests itself.

If someone farted on a plane, the RW would scream..."GAS ATTACK ON FLGHT!!111!!!"

The reality of the situation is that no matter how well we think we have a handle on those that would do harm to innocent people; they will inevitably, come up with a "new" way of getting through. Who would have thought making a bomb out of a shoe? Who would have thought that something like a "crotch bomb" would manifest itself as it did. For all we know, some maniac will shove a pound of C-4 up his/her ass in the future and try to take down a plane.

The RW makes the "Boy Who Cried Wolf" look like a kid just whistling, when it comes to making ridiculous claims.

The best case scenario happened, even though tis clown got through security...no one was injured or killed. Now, it's time to try this goomer, toss him into jail for life and give him as little notoriety as possible.
