I'm sensing something new, possibly unofficial, but positive. |
|
A thread got locked yesterday because the "writer" started a thread which led to embers but not quit glames and later the thread was locked because the OP "abandoned" the thread.
I think that's a marvelous idea, not just in this case, but also when RW sources without comment are posted and the thread staarter abandons the thread. Are "drive-bys" alertable, particularly RW source and no comment from the poster? If so, what would be a reasonable length of time to expext the poster to reply?
There's a certain up-and-coming DUer who uses this tactic with RW cources and no comment and it is aggravating because many DUers don't realize the OP hasn't returned to the thread.
Things happen to folks and they can't always return, but most people are interested in the topic they post and will follow it.
I can certainly understand this being on a case-by-case basis, but it's good to know you are concerned about this aggravating practice.
Thanks always.

1. I don't know which thread you are referring to. |

But I think, as a matter of policy, this would be a difficult thing to do. As you rightly point out, there are times when the OP does not participate in the thread, but that does not mean the thread should be shut down.
You are certainly welcome to alert on these threads. But you should not expect any particular result.
