I happen to think the function works pretty well. But, seeing lots of thread comments about it, I posted an OP a while back suggesting a threshhold number of posts for rec/unrec privilege.
IIRC, a GD post some time ago noted a change in google algorithms that boosted DU very high in search results. If I'm understanding that correctly, that seems positive for DU in bringing in new members of our political persuasion. But it also brings new trolls who may be responsible for much of the unrec'ing that seems to freak people out.
Is my understanding correct? And, if it is, would the threshhold idea be a better corrective than a more radical change to the current rec/unrec function?
Thanks. (And two more of my cents: If activity in this forum doesn't taper off, and imposes too demanding a workload on you guys--just drop it, please. The other things you do are more valuable to the board, and to us members. Thanks again.)

1. To be honest, I think a bigger problem is this: |

People think their threads are getting tons of unrecs from newbie trolls. But the reality is that their threads are getting unrecs from established DU members.
I can see who is giving unrecs, and very, very few come from newbie trolls. When they do, we ban them.
