Why didn't Bush keep his prediction about his fabulous ranch in Crawford?
It was made out to be "the place of his dreams" and who can forget all that brush cutting. It's so obvious that it was a useful tool to copy Reagan. I lived in Calif. when Reagan was governor and president and can vividly remember the Reagans' visits to their ranch for many years. I believe that in his case, the ranch was real. Like so many other aspects of Bush's life, the Crawford Ranch was nothing more than a stage prop. Here's an interesting and telling quote from 2001!

"I know a lot of you wish you were in the East Coast, lounging on the beaches, sucking in the salt air," he told reporters in 2001. "But when you're from Texas -- and love Texas -- this is where you come home. It'll be the house where I live in for the rest of my life. I like my own home, and I don't mind the heat."

I still find his (and Laura's) phoniness disgusting!

So far as I remember, anyway - pretty sure he bought right before he ran for president, or soon into his run.

And, of course, as soon as he was no longer POTUS, that house went bye bye so he could move to the city.

Why ANYONE in the entire world would think that psychotic pile of lying shit is anything but, is beyond me. His fakery is so fucking obvious, you'd think even a teabagger could see it.

31. Ever since "the incident," Mr Bush has shied away from the ponies. . .
It happened his first year as Governor. Concerned about the impression his non-riding would have with Texas voters, his Staff decided it’d be best if they staged a photo-op on a horse. They picked out the steed they thought best for the novice rider, and two of his aides helped him into the saddle. No sooner was he seated, though, when the horse bolted, took off with no warning whatsoever. Mr Bush clung bravely to the reins, and tried to wrap his legs tight around the haunches, but the speed of the horse, coupled with the wild motion of its galloping, threw Mr Bush from the saddle.

To the horror of all the witnesses, Mr Bush’s foot became ensnared in the stirrup, and though he crashed hard to the ground, he was trapped and drug helplessly behind the charging steed. Some of the younger aides moved quick to help, but it was hopeless -- the galloping beast rushed ahead, and Mr Bush bounced wildly behind, his arms flailing helplessly, his head and shoulders repeatedly smashed on the hard ground beneath the thundering hooves.

It seemed for a moment that all was lost and Mr Bush would be pounded to death before his horrified Staff. Shouts of anguish and despair arose from them all and the end seemed inevitable, but all the hubbub alerted the Wal-Mart manager, who stepped outside and pulled the plug.

And so, you can understand, ever since "the incident" Mr Bush has shied away from the ponies. . .

36. I remember a photo of W, from waist up, with horses behind him,
shown from shoulders up.

It was one of those White House release photos and didn't look photoshopped, but word got out that W was standing on the edge of a road for the photo and the horses had been hobbled and chained to stakes just over the rim of the ditch, which would have explained why they seemed so low behind him.

I looked through several pages of Google images, but that photo isn't there.

I know I didn't imagine it.

The man was afraid of horses. He definitely watched a horse show (in Saudi Arabia or somewhere) from behind a heavy glass window -- he and his Arab sheikh buddy host were on the inside of the glass wall, while those ferocious four-footed vegetarians were safely on the other side.

18. "ranch" Ha
Definition of "ranch" is: area of land where animals are grazed; cattle, sheep, goats, horses, exotic deer, etc.. As far as I know, there never were any animals of any kind, except their pets; that's why Shrub had to keep the "brush" cut, there were no animals to keep things "grazed". Heh! All of above comments true: just a sham for the gullible press and public. I knew they would end up in Dallas, that was their home before they had to come to Austin to play Guvner. Their house they built was never shown on TV. I saw an architect's rendering of it in the paper; it is very modern, yet modest and simple in design; I have no idea how big it is, couldn't tell from that one elevation. I would love to tour it, (not because it is owned by the most disgusting president in my lifetime,) but because it supposedly was very "green" in it's design, and adapted to the climate and topography.

34. Reminds me of an anecdote..
.. from a coworker who lived in Midland back in the 70s/80s.

Georgey boy lived there too, trying to find oil in Texas. He never succeeded but he managed to run several companies into the ground.

According to this coworker (who BTW I was reluctant to talk to him about this when he first said he lived in the same town as Bush and everyone knew Bush.. I thought he was a wingnut and was about to explain what a genius he was)...

anyway, he talked about various dumb shit Bush did (mostly alcohol related) and how everyone in town hated him and was glad when he was elected governor just because they would finally be rid of him :)

How many failed to notice the enormous hypocrisy? How many just ignored the whole thing? It's important because it speaks to the nature of the man in the Oval Office for eight long years. "The emperor has no clothes" is not strong enough to define this person.

The Bush people went out and found the worst place in the world--hot, dry, UGLY, not really compatible with human life--and built a huge Western White House on it. The reason it was so shitty was to discourage the press from covering his all-too-frequent vacations.
