ALBANY, Ga. — An Albany Police Department officer went to jail with two friends on the first day of the new year in Lee County, a Lee County Jail report stated.

Grady J.W. Rachel Jr., 28, was arrested at about 12:05 a.m. Saturday for discharging a firearm in a subdivision and disorderly conduct, said Lee County Sheriff Reggie Rachals.

“The deputies arrived and witnessed the shooting,” Rachals said. “In this day and age, they took no chances. They ordered them to drop their weapons and get down on the ground. They got in the dirt, offered no resistance and were arrested.”

“We had call after call in the neighborhood of shots fired coming in, Rachals said. “He (Rachel) was firing his MP5 semi-automatic rifle.

There were at least three dozen shots fired from the rifle. That rifle is part of his SWAT equipment.”

1. The entire concept of "being a cop" tends to attract people who should never be cops.
Bullies, morans, the type of idiots who would empty an MP5
into the AIR in an urban environment.

6. A man in my city was killed when I was a kid
when some idiot fired a shot into the air and the bullet landed on the man's head.

Don't remember if it was New Years Eve. But I think of this every time I hear of another idiot firing a gun into the air.

7. And yet cops who actually kill people are rarely fired.
They are usually not even charged with anything. By those standards, this guy should keep his job.

Now I think it is stupid what he did but maybe just worthy of a suspension without pay or whatever.
