New Jersey Governor claims no responsibility for certain snowed-in citizens

New Jersey Governor claims no responsibility for certain snowed in citizensThe Republican governor of New Jersey claimed no responsibility those trapped by the snow not on state roads while he was away on vacation to Disneyworld with his family when his state suffered its fifth-largest blizzard on record.

“If someone is snowed into their house, that’s not our responsibility,” Gov. Chris Christie said during his first press conference upon returning from Florida Thursday.

Christie said that he would have repeated this trip and his limit to helping those only trapped on state roads had he the opportunity to do it over again.

“I wouldn’t change the decision even if I could do it right now,” he said. “I had a great five days with my children. I promised that.”

California Republican touts legislation banning public pension bailouts
By Mike Lillis - 01/01/11 12:31 PM ET

The country's public pension system is grossly underfunded and needs an overhaul, Rep. Devin Nunes said this week.

The California Republican is promoting legislation designed to gauge the extent of the problem, while also establishing a ban on federal bailouts of public pension programs.

8. I'm stuck in NJ for the next four years
but I have been considering building a home in NC. Of course the kids are lobbying against giving up the 'family compound', but the taxes and corruption are just overwhelming. I'm looking forward to milder winters too.

15. You would not regret it.
Wish we had moved sooner. My son, daughter in law and grandson just moved in September. The only hold out now is my 20 year old granddaughter but, I'm sure she'll be here soon.

A day will not go by that you won't meet someone from NJ. I don't know what happened but, Wake County is little NJ.

9. Ah, but yes
that *is* one of government's jobs. It's not like we're asking him to shovel our driveways.

10. SCOTUS says government is not responsible for protecting an individual unless she/he is in custody.
See Castle Rock v. Gonzales, 545 U.S. 748 (2005)

Self defense is a personal responsibility whether against criminals or Mother Nature.

14. Katrina set the tone for future government response
The government knows climate change will bring myriad emergencies and disasters. The message from here out is "you're on your own".

17. "They should have relocated to another area! Should have gone to Disneyworld!"
See how bad leadership, when there is no accountability for lies & inaction, in one catastrophe (Katrina), it opens the door for more of the same. Nothing is learned.

I hope this governor breaks the mold & gets what's coming to him.
