12. My point is that there is little quality control on the field, beyond who serves the organization &
who doesn't.

My cubicle used to be next door to a staff chaplain who was making the transition from his own small FAILED church into mega-church staff, couldn't help but hear half of several fascinating conversations, so I know what you're referring to.

13. You take a mail in test and pay the cost and they send you a little
piece of paper saying you are a pastor. If you can con enough people with your little paper then you have a "church". That is opposed to ministers in some real churches that spend 10 years getting their education. Some of them can also be molesters. Actually molesters are drawn to professions that allow them to be near children.

14. Rush Limbaugh has got to be conflicted on this one
Rio Linda in the news, yet the rest of the story doesn't work too well. How can he possible spin this one?

15. "how can he possibly spin this one"?
Knowing how nutty Rush and his followers are he'll probably say these kids are actually liberal operatives who are out to attack Christianity.

That's something I'd expect to hear Rush say.

18. But, but Rio Linda has always been an easy soft target for Rush
He started attacking the community ruthlessly when he started radio talk in Sacramento in the eighties (KFBK). It must be a real dilemma for him not to be able to get one more vindictive jab in.

22. This seems to be an almost universal condition
of the clergy. Why are there so many offenders? Because they are placed in a position of trust? They can't resist the temptation? I have heard the claim that the number of abusers in the clergy is no greater than in the general public. I find that claim hard to believe.

25. Has to do with "methiks he protests too much" syndrome.
Outwardly declaiming what we fear in ourselves, if you like.
Ever notice that the more rigid the belief system, the more likely its proponents will act out the opposite?
Throw in the illusion of control and you have a a herd of fundies trying to rule the world.

29. Yup
I have never felt so negative about 'organized religion' in my life. And I didn't feel all that positive about it in the past, anyway. I was raised catholic with many years of Catholic school indoctrination. But I have no problem peeking through the cloud of bullshit obfuscation.

28. Well, you certainly don't expect men like him to amend a constitution
to prohibit child molesters from marriage. After all, how ironic is it that heterosupremacy and "freedom" means allowing child sexual predators to legally marry and produce children to molest?

Yet you won't hear a peep out of the Right concerning this behavior. Obviously, this minister is just another example of why that is the case. Maybe the laws should be changed to include that sexual predators not be allowed to live within x number of yards of a church, too. . .
