California's Disgrace: Darrell Issa (CA-49)
I've been outspoken in my criticisms of the good folks of Florida and their electing Rick Scott. Now, the crow is mine to eat. Even though California avoided the worst of the Red-State, TeaBagging debacle by our electing a largely Blue Slate for key officers, we still have our marks of shame. We still have this mono-maniacial millionaire miscreant in a key position - he's now head of a committee with subpoena power. If you think Ken Starr and his minions created havoc, wait til Unca D does his thing. As new Chair of the House Oversight Committee he is totally revved up to launch a non-stop era of waste, obfuscations and stasis. He (with his money) was able to oust California Grey Davis throuh a recall - and then dumped Ah-nold into the slot. Where the fiscal woes got worse.

Now he will use the taxpayer's money to do this roadblock campaign non-stop. I have no doubt that he will have many allies: Red State corporatists and baggers will supplement his checks with their own and their corporations. Fox will trumpet each rumor and innuendo. Rush will rant and explode his gut daily. Issa is no doubt is hog heaven, wallowing in his upcoming notoriety.

I was stupid enought to think that when Nancy Pelosi and Henry Waxman got control of the House in 2006, THEY would dig into the Bush crimes. Reveal enough about Iraq and surveillance to wrap up those practices. NO. Impeachment was OFF THE TABLE, wasn't it Nancy?

I was stupid enough to think Obama would do some digging and accountabily too if he was elected. After all, he came from humbler routes and has a different view of the world, doesn't he? But - he tells us over and over - Americans want to look forward, not back. And so the abuses of power, lies and the war continues...along with the transfer of wealth and the death of hundreds of thousands.

Am I stupid this time to think that maybe, just maybe, Darrell Issa actually will issue those subpoenas. He's all set to look back - oh yeah! And I predict every other House chair will do likewise, lest they miss out the action and the headlines. And, if it meets with Wall Street, bankers, pentagons and Chamber of Commerce's strategic goals, Articles of Impeachment might just get voted on if they are submitted. And Issa, McConnell, the Kock-ie Bros and John of Orange will love every single minute of this ascendancy. Michelle Bachman and Scalie will teach Americans what their constitution really is - it will resemble Opus Dei and a trailer park.

And am I stupid to think that Obama and the Dems learned a lesson..?

Happy New Year, y'all. May CA-49 with it's military folks, defense contractors, retirees and Native tribes get what they deserve.

3. I really don't understand why he isn't investigated for
the recall. There is so much scuttlebutt out there about how the petition signatures were obtained, not kosher, and those out of state deep pockets from mostly back East that backed him. I'm surprised Jerry Brown didn't start an investigation when he was Atty. General. Also, Congress should but he would have to investigate himself as head of the ethics committee.

6. You can't recall the feds and he is a United States
Congressman. I have a Republican Congressman I can't stand either, but no one runs against him, so he just keeps the seat like he's a king or something. I would love to recall him.

7. IDGI. Is your post about Issa or Waxman/Pelosi/Obama?
I agree that Issa is a disgrace to California and Congressional politics. Yet I don't get the side track to the Dems you list, or the Native tribes in CA-49 for that matter.

15. I referred to the demographics of CA-49
if you read Issa's website description of his district (which is sparsely populated) those are the main groups.

I also find bitter irony that when the Dems had a chance to seriously dig up Bush dirt and damage the conservative, neo-Con brand they didn't take that chance. They held back, played it safe - didn't ask. Now their timidity has put them on the other side. The current Repug House has not such timidity and will play every card they can to crush anything Blue that lives.

8. Issa is a swine. He was on Fox berating Holder for not prosecuting ACORN
or The New Black Panthers -- IOW, for not prosecuting non-existent cases.

Swine.

9. Issa is a car thief and a serious crook!
Issa dropped out of high school<4> and at 17 enlisted for a three-year tour in the Army, serving as a bomb disposal technician. Issa further recounted being part of the security entourage for President Nixon during the 1971 World Series, despite Nixon never having attended the event. Issa left the Army nearly two years early after being stripped of his duties as a bomb specialist.<5>

A retired Army sergeant claimed that Issa stole a Dodge sedan from an Army post near Pittsburgh in 1971. The sergeant said he recovered the car after confronting and threatening him. Issa denied the allegation and no charges were filed.<6><7> In 1972, Issa and his brother allegedly stole a red Maserati sports car from a car dealership in Cleveland. He and his brother were indicted for car theft, but the case was dropped.<6><7> That same year, Issa was convicted in Michigan for possession of an unregistered gun. He received three months probation and paid a $204 fine.<8>

...

On December 28, 1979, Issa and his brother allegedly faked the theft of Issa's Mercedes Benz sedan. Issa and his brother were charged for grand theft auto, but the case was dropped by prosecutors for lack of evidence. Later, Issa and his brother were charged for misdemeanors, but that case was not pursued by prosecutors. Issa accused his brother of stealing the car, and said that the experience with his brother was the reason he went into the car alarm business.<6><7>

A day after a court order was issued, giving Issa control of automotive alarm company A.C. Custom over an unpaid $60,000 debt, Issa allegedly carried a cardboard box containing a handgun into the office of A.C. Custom executive, Jack Frantz, and told Frantz he was fired. In a 1998 newspaper article, Frantz said Issa had invited him to hold the gun and claimed extensive knowledge of guns and explosives from his Army service. In response, Issa said, "Shots were never fired. ... I don't recall having a gun. I really don't. I don't think I ever pulled a gun on anyone in my life."<8>

prosecute him for any number of his crimes including the recall. It's ironic that he would head the ethics committee.

11. Well, he didn't dump Arnold into office; Arnold ate his lunch
by jumping in to what Issa had set up as his own scheme to get the governor's office.

Issa was left crying, literally.

Arnold would still be getting face lifts and making bad movies.

13. "Step away from the stupid, Darrell"
Issa made his fortune through his company, Directed Electronics Incorporated, that is most famous for its flagship product, the "Viper" car alarm. It bears a siren that is a recording of Issa's voice saying, "please step away from the car."<9> As of 2004, Directed Electronics was North America's largest aftermarket automotive electronics manufacturer. Issa divested personal interest in Directed Electronics after being elected to public office, but he is the richest member of the House and the second richest in all of the 111th Congress. He is worth an estimated $251 million.
