So I Did A Silent Callout On a Republican Hypocrite

....Anyhow this morning my wife and I drop off some items at Goodwill. We waited on the car in front of us as they were waiting for the clerk to get a tax receipt so they could write off the donation on their taxes. I happened to notice on their bumper a McCain/Palin,Dino Rossi for Governor stickers and a couple of other Republican campaign stickers as well.

Anyhow we went in to the store to browse around as we are looking for a cheap file cabinet...so the same person that was in front of us outside was now in front of us inside so I just said to my wife "isn't it funny that those who vote republican say they do so because they want less government but will take any tax breaks and loopholes from the government".

The lady in front of us face turned into a prune and she was doing her best to get out of the store quickly as possible, she paid for her items and walked away and I just said "enjoy your tax break"

I have always thought off it petty when people claim $1500 of donation church tithes to in reality receive a a boot one step down on the tax chart only to save themselves maybe $30.00

If you're a Republican and want smaller government, one way to do that is to not fund it, then it can't do as much, either because it has less money, and/or because it increases debt, and thus spends larger portions of its available money in interest on the debt.

So from the perspective of wanting to defund government, getting every tax rebate possible is a good idea.

It's like you haven't been paying any attention at all to what Republicans have been doing over the past thirty years and more.

Sorry, I disagree with what you did. People who contribute to charity shouldn't be harassed in that process, even if they are being stupid or greedy in other choices.

And, I take those tax breaks myself, except for when I'm too lazy to bother with the record-keeping. It's not a big thing, but it's in the tax code, and it's reasonable. Not the same as stretching things that really shouldn't be deductions.

The tax code is written to divert taxes from government to private charities.

Drown government in the bathtub and leave social good to the charities is their whole point.
