Oops: Japanese Gov Didn’t Send out Fukushima Radiation Spread Map
http://english.kyodonews.jp/news/2011/05/89988.html

TOKYO, May 9, Kyodo

The central government failed to send to Fukushima Prefecture a map showing areas with potential volume of radioactive materials released into the atmosphere for more than eight hours after the nuclear power plant there was crippled in the wake of the March 11 earthquake and ensuing tsunami, sources in the prefectural government said Monday.

1. 8 hours? I'm surprised it didn't take longer, really.
I imagine they were very busy there. Maybe it just wasn't possible to create such a map before that time. I don't know, but with everything going on in Japan in the earthquake and tsunami, 8 hours doesn't seem too long a time to elapse before a map was created. Access to wind direction and speed information and measurements of whatever radioactivity that was released probably weren't available. Communications were down, and everything was screwed up. Not everyone has the knowledge and skills to create such a map, so maybe the person who had that knowledge and skill wasn't even there.

I'm sorry, but this doesn't sound like a really valid complaint.

2. It sounds like they had the info, but failed to send it for 8hrs
That would be an issue, among many regarding the disaster at Fukushima, that has occurred, which accumulate to make a very serious problem, even more deadly.

3. It doesn't say they failed to make a map. It says they failed to release it
How would people know which direction to evacuate to without such a map? They might evacuate right into worst of it without this information.
