1. If we are a Christian nation as the Pat Robertson types say |
|
shouldn't they follow the Bible? (Deuteronomy 20:10-14)
As you approach a town to attack it, first offer its people terms for peace. If they accept your terms and open the gates to you, then all the people inside will serve you in forced labor. But if they refuse to make peace and prepare to fight, you must attack the town. When the LORD your God hands it over to you, kill every man in the town. But you may keep for yourselves all the women, children, livestock, and other plunder. You may enjoy the spoils of your enemies that the LORD your God has given you.
So God approves of murder, rape, and slavery?

Truly shocking. I'm surprised every time I read things like that. It's amazing how people just gloss over those parts of the bible isn't it?

4. That was standard Policy for everyone at that time period. |
|
Genghis Khan and his Mongol Hordes used the same policy, if a town resisted they killed everyone in it, if it submitted all that was required was support for the Mongols (This is the "Forced Labor" used in cited biblical reference). It is an effective tactic used to this day, once an Army has a reputation of ruthlessness if opposed, but jealous if NOT, many towns and cites will submit to avoid being massacred and the amount of "Forced Labor" is minor compared to destruction of the town or city.
Another way to look at this is this is typical justification for what someone was going to do anyway, just like Bush jr went into Iraq to destroy non-existent Nuclear, Chemical and Biological (NBC) weapons. Bush's lies are like the last line in this citation, justification for what the attackers already planned to do.

7. That's old testiment... |
|
Jesus brought a kinder, gentler way into being... so technically, a Christian (someone who aspires to be Christ-like) shouldn't be holding those old laws as sacred... what is depicted in that passage, well, Jesus wouldn't approve of that kind of action at all.

5. You should have added a poll to this. |
|
If it has some political benefit, I'm sure it would be okay.
