A co-worker just found his utilty knife in his laptop bag. TSA didn't. |
|
He is a network infrastructure & cabling guy and travels all over the country. The last time he used the knife was a couple of months ago. Since then he's made half a dozen cross-country trips with the laptop and not one TSA agent noticed the boxcutter he was carrying on the airplane!

3. I was just going to say, "Maybe if he were an infant in a diaper, TSA would've checked him." |

7. depends on the size of the blade if it's allowed but boxcutters are harmless |

i realize in the early days of 9/11 they said boxcutter, boxcutter, boxcutter, but even the 9/11 commission eventually came back and noticed that these guys had more than box cutters -- by then, no one was paying attention anymore, 9/11 was old news and bush had famously declared that he didn't know where bin laden was and didn't think much about him any more...
you can listen to one of the old recordings, where the flight attendant i think it was on american airlines #11 reports that they are being assaulted by a hijacker with a gun
there is also a well publicized recording of to/from air traffic control from united 93 -- at least one of the hijackers had a bomb or claimed to have a bomb thus had something reasonably resembling a bomb and enough to get him into the cockpit with his threats
boxcutters are no threat to airport security and were only ever made a big deal of, because boxcutters were legal then, and by claiming "boxcutters" the airlines and the airport security fuck-ups in question were excused from any liability for the attacks
your co-workers boxcutter is not a threat to anyone, so he should chill...but if he wants to keep it, check it, eventually he'll run into an anal security guy who will make him toss it
of course those of us who ever worked where we had to pack, ship, and open a lot of boxes always knew this wasn't done with boxcutters, it's hard to cut a finger with a boxcutter and i'm a klutz, forget about cutting a throat...

9. I wouldn't call them "harmless" and I don't think ANY blade is allowed aboard an aircraft |
|
You could still fuck somebody up pretty good with a box cutter / utility knife.
6 oz of sunscreen is not a threat to anyone, but they still take it away from you. Just a couple of weeks ago, I was pulled into secondary because I was wearing a Casio watch. I guess I'm not getting your point.

10. You could seriously mess somebody up with a box cutter pretty quickly |

I accidentally carried in my briefcase a 5" mini samurai sword to & from California. I only found when I got home and was cleaning out the case.
