Another Q for those approaching 10 years at DU - were you a member of the invite-only forum at DU

Talk about the original DU clique. This was a pre-cursor to the DU Lounge. But they had a forum called 'democratic underground' and you could only post in that area if you were invited. To get invited you had to send a request to the admins and even then you probably will get rejected at first. I got in the 2nd time but only after making a $10 donation to DU.

Eventually Skinner and EarlG closed it down because somehow freepers managed to get an invite into the area and were posting our comments over at the free republic.

all the time...in fact I miss them the most: NSMA, Zomby, Matcom..that whole group. I am not even going to mention those that we have lost ( :( )...but, I do think about Keph often.

I came in the spring of '01 and remember all the threads about Daddy Bush. Wasn't there a forum called "The Dirt"? Unfortunately, I was never invited to the special club. Was it called "The Basement"?

A poster named Kali was the main contributor there. Every conspiracy about the BFEE I learned in that forum from Kali. There's another DUer named Kali around now, but I'm not sure if it's the same one or not.

It was necessary at the time. We would organize to gang-destroy the legions of Freeper-disruptors who made it their mission to bring this place down.

But then it became a place for cliques to organize attacks on fellow DUers they didn't like or disagreed with.

It was a good day when that forum closed, but it had its purposes back in the day.

I found DU in 2001, but didn't actually join in 2002. I have been banned once, under my original name, and ended up using my real name in 2003.

So,does that make you better, wiser , more accepted than me?

I only went to the front page and LBN. I did not think I knew enough to post here, which was really not true. Anyway, I did not join formally and start contributing thoughts and money until 2003. I have learned a lot here, but I am not stupider than anyone here. The stupid is over at FR.
