21. I just saw the Twilight Zone episode also!
Mannequins have always creeped me out, so I found this one to be an incredibly eerie episode! It's nice timing that SyFy included it in their regular New Year's Day marathon.

RIP, dear lady.

5. I loved her as "Honey West". . .
during the mid-60's rash of spy television programs, I thought her show was the most underrated - and, along with the highly popular Emma Peel character in "The Avengers" was among a group of television programs that showed women in leading characters that were strong, confident, capable and independent.

Before that era, it was very difficult to find women characters (especially in the 50's) who didn't cower or erupt in tears or fret over how much starch to put in hubby's white collar. At that time, blue collar women showed the most spunk, but that was part of their need for the whole family to survive (like The Honeymooners, etc) but the man was always still the major breadwinner. Single women (like Our Miss Brooks) were either nurses, secretaries, or teachers who lived as loveable spinsters who were just unlucky at finding a man.

Watching those spy shows from the 1960's is a fascinating look at our culture and the changing roles of women. . .often the daughters of women who moved out of the household during World War II and earned their own paycheck for the first time doing all kinds of outside "men's work". . .climbing telephone poles, driving trucks, etc. When the war ended, our government made a concerted public effort to push women back into the home, lured by the luster of new timesaving appliances. But Honey West, among others, showed that women did not have to settle completely for one set of social norms and certainly helped open the door for women to move into many other occupations.

15. Ann and Barbra hated each other
Ann had a substantial, juicy role in Funny Girl and Barbra managed to have it cut down to a glorified cameo, so the film would be all about Barbra. Ann apparently had high hopes the part would revive her career, so she took it pretty hard.

I really liked Ann and LOATHE Barbra so, needless to say: Team Ann.

9. Jesus.
Actor Pete Postlethwaite died today at 64. Wasn't he in that, too, or am I confusing my headlines?

14. "Alta, about a million years from now..."
"... the human race will have crawled up to where the Krell stood in their great moment of triumph and tragedy. And your father's name will shine again like a beacon in the galaxy. It's true, it will remind us that we are, after all, not God."

16. Hate to hear that - "Forbidden Planet" was one of my favorite childhood movies.
Her co-star in that movie, Leslie Nielsen, just passed away recently, too.

20. One thing I always admired about her --
was she had a very naturalistic delivery for her era of filmmaking -- her performanes remain fairly "fresh" onscreen because of that skill.

Was there anyone more beautiful than Alta??
