In Killing Ohio’s High-Speed Rail Project, Kasich Eliminated Private-Sector Jobs He Promised To Create

Rather than acknowledge the number of jobs created or kept afloat by Democratic policies like the Recovery Act, Republicans insist that Democrats have done nothing to help create private-sector jobs. Future House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) has said, “Washington has kept the private sector in bust while manufacturing a boom for the public sector.”

Boehner’s bosom-buddy Gov. John Kasich (R-OH) beat a similar drum on the campaign trail. Touting his plan to help the private-sector “quickly help create jobs,” Kasich insisted he would help “improve the atmosphere in our state for real business development” by meeting “the needs of businesses to overcome” governmental “snafus.” But Kasich undermined his rhetoric by killing Ohio’s high-speed rail project. In doing so, he derailed many businesses’ economic development plans and effectively killed the private-sector jobs he promised to create, leaving one businessman to call his decision “unbelievable,” “mind-boggling,” and “naive”:

3. because they might be union jobs
Kasich is not above having Ohio declare bankruptcy so he can break all union agreements with state workers and contractors. So why would he want $400 billion to go (in part) to providing union jobs for people?

7. Agree. You hit it on the head.. this is about Union Busting and Republican "control"...
Edited on Mon Jan-03-11 09:31 PM by lib2DaBone
This is about contracts that were legally issued and out in the open. No way for Kasich and his Republican cronies to control and subvert the funds the way things stand. Too many eyes will see the dirty deed done by the REPUBLICANS.

As soon as he can figure out a way to bundle this money behind closed doors and funnel it to his Bankster Buddies.. the rail project will be on track again.

And if he can bust the unions and pay people slave wages in the process.. that is better than throwing red meat to his conservative base of Fox viewers.

AMTRAK has ordered 70 new locomotives to be built by Siemans Corp.. partly in Ohio. These are much needed jobs in a state that is is devastated by off shoring. I wonder how Kasich and Repukes will work to kill these job?

Jobs? "We don't need no stinkin' jobs in Ohio"..

Amtrak to buy new locomotives

Amtrak plans to add 70 new electric locomotives to its fleet in an effort to improve service along the Northeast Corridor, Amtrak officials said Friday.

The company awarded a $466 million six-year contract to Siemens to build the locomotives -- a move that will also create 250 jobs in Sacramento, Calif., and at plants in Ohio and Georgia, Amtrak officials said.

4. They'd rather not talk about jobs; rather 'no new taxes.'
Don't confuse them with real world/facts.
