The nefarious reason Haley Barbour released the Scott Sisters
For Rip Van Winkle: A few days ago, Mississippi Republican Governor Haley Barbour suspended the life sentences of Jamie and Gladys Scott on the condition Gladys donates a kidney to Jamie.

Since Republicans aren't real big on compassion, there simply must be another reason for this, and it turns out there is. In fact, there are two--and both have dollar signs in front of them.

According to http://www.eurweb.com/?p=74414, Corrections Commissioner Christopher Epps claims Jamie's dialysis costs the state $190,000 per year.

According to http://www.esrdnet5.org/transplant/ktqa/pts.pdf, it costs $116,100 to transplant a kidney into someone.

So basically, Mr. Barbour saves the state a shitload of money AND gets painted as this wonderful man with one stroke of a pen. Nice!

1. And didn't he then direct a study to see if there are other people in jail who need high cost care?
I thought I read the other week when this story hit the news that he's looking for more to release based on what they're costing the state.

4. I dunno
I dunno. He might have done it out of compassion but the bigger question is how did that meat bog become the governor of ANY state ?
