LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – Police are revealing disturbing new information that could lead to more charges against the man accused of allegedly torturing and killing cats, Alex Phelps.


A former friend of the accused cat killer spoke out to WHAS11’s Brooke Katz about her connection to Phelps, and her concerns. Samantha Caple contacted us after seeing stories about Phelps. She says she’s known him since 2005 and even trusted him to take one of her pets.


Caple said she can’t believe that her friend since 2005, Alex Phelps, is now accused of torturing, mutilating and killing several cats. A cat-lover herself, Caple said she couldn’t take care of one of hers, an orange Tabby, so she says she gave it to Phelps; but she said she never saw the animal again.


Earlier this week Phelps was arrested in Louisville, charged with abusing and killing four cats; two of them were found behind a Kroger store in Southern Jefferson County

4. It's the breach of trust that bothers me the most

My cat is sitting about two feet from me, watching my every move, as I type this. I remember reading Desmond Morris' book "Catwatching," which is an excellent book on cat psychology and why they do what they do. He writes that cats, mentally, never advance beyond adolescence, and that they see their human owners as their mothers. To have an animal trust you that way...the way that I know my own cat trusts me...and to do what Frist did and write about it in such a cavalier fashion sickens me to the core.

Frist reminds me of those horrible stories of soldiers rearing a puppy and then beating it to death to prove their willingness to kill.

There are some truly sick people killing animals and wildlife.

They are not much different from those who kill the homeless and disabled if they can corner them and think they'll get away with it.

More craziness at the end of an era. Please let it pass and change.

I'm no expert (at least I don't think I am) but I'm just willing to bet that there are a good number of folks in that area that would be quite...*upset* with him if convicted. Shame that.
