‘Full Metal Jacket’ drill instructor apologizes for calling on Americans to ‘rise up’ against Obama
The foul-mouthed, hard-nosed drill instructor made famous by Stanley Kubrick's classic war film "Full Metal Jacket" ruffled some feathers early last month for commenting at a charity event that President Barack Obama wants "to bring this country to its knees" and institute "socialism."

His proposed solution: "Rise up" and "stop this administration" from "destroying this country."

Now, Gunnery Sergeant Hartman -- the character which has carried the career of R. Lee Ermey -- is doing the unthinkable: apologizing.

"I regret that I delivered a monologue that was inappropriately critical of the President," he wrote on a special message posted to his official website. "I was trying to be entertaining and simply went too far in this instance."

No surprise he's a Glenn Beck fan! Geico should drop him. Wonder if that is why he's trying to walk his comments back or if he is sincere.

5. 15 minutes? Try 25 years
Ermey's been around for a long, long time, with roles in other movies such as Prefontaine and even an off-screen voice in one of the X-Men movies, not to mention two series for the History Channel. He ain't going away anytime soon.

15. I wrote to Geico
I told them how much I enjoyed the gecko commercials...and the caveman ones. I also wrote I think the woodchuck ones are not at all entertaining and that the Emery psychiatrist is as nice as chalk on a blackboard. I also told them what inspired me to write them..seeing Emery onstage urging other Americans to revolt against their president.

Nothing may come of it but it made me feel better.
