7. No it wouldn't - if it was for charity and they were non professionals
Kerry, who is older, played ice hockey in 2004 in NH and more recently in DC in 2009 - http://www.foxnews.com/video-search/m/21964007/lawmakers_vs_lobbyists.htm

9. That is a cool video - and likely the only time that anyone on Fox said anything nice
Edited on Tue Jan-04-11 05:18 PM by karynnj
about John Kerry. I guess they like that better than Kerry on the Senate floor repelling all Republican attacks on the START treaty.

11. If I could talk to Howard, I'd remind him that words matter
and I'd ask him what the hell he's doing, talking about our social safety nets, that we have paid for, in right wing terms that obfuscate our work and our investment.

2. That link is wrong - is this the one you meant
Edited on Tue Jan-04-11 04:28 PM by karynnj
The link you posted had no Howard Dean - and they were speaking of baseball. I didn't watch much - so maybe they changed subjects and people.

Is this what you mean - http://www.cnbc.com/id/15840232/?video=1714386191&play=1 ?

There is a comment on cutting both entitlements and defense. He also spoke of needing to first raise some taxes. The man he is speaking against is spouting RW nonsense and thinking if he does this authoritatively, it makes it true. Dean speaks of both cutting spending and raising taxes. (Raise taxes to Clinton level for everybody to balance the budget.)

Remember that Dean was for eliminating all the Bush tax cuts when he ran in 2004. He always was a fiscally conservative Democrat who spoke of balancing the budget. This is not new. Here, the thing to notice is where he pushes back against the rght wingers who want 80% to come from spending cuts - and the amounts are so huge that has to mean entitlements - and push back against any tax cuts.

Personally, I don't think we have to "balance the budget". In times like this, it is right to run a deficit. The problem is that it is far too big and the interest on the debt will be unsustainable. We need to raise taxes. Dean is likely right that to do either, you need to do both at the same time. The problem is there is not a lot that can be cut without hurting someone. Anothe problem os that you can't stimulate the economy by draconian cuts - our infrastructure is far from what we need.

I suspect that many Democrats will - to some degree - follow Dean on this.

3. Thank you...Yes, that is the one I wanted.
I did notice that he mentioned raising taxes, which I agree with, but I don't know why he mentions cutting entitlements..Why don't they cut defense?..It's bloated beyond all measure.
