Honest to god conversation today
Edited on Tue Dec-14-10 10:54 PM by TwixVoy
So I am sitting in the lunch room today.

Co-worker comes in.

Me: Did you see the governor of Texas is talking about eliminating medicaid in that state? Apparently the Texas health and human services commission is actually conducting a study to see what would happen if they did it.

Her: I know people who make lots of money and have good jobs and they are on medicaid. (SURE you do)

Me: Well apparently there is also a commission studying cuts to social security.

Her: They'll never cut my social security.

END OF CONVERSATION. Went back to staring at the wall for the duration of lunch.

What a country....

6. Where in the post
does it say she doesn't HAVE SS yet? You do understand that people can work full time and collect SS at the same time, after age 65/66, don't you?

But...for that matter, I don't see that she actually said she was collecting, but that she expects that, when she does collect, her benefits will remain at what she expects them to be.

Now...the Medicaid/Medicare thing...now that's another story!

canned cat food is costly indeed.

happy (greedy) assholes left on that age of retirement.

The greatest FLATULATION of the greatest generation is now near dead and going to kill this country before they go. Republican, only because they think it will protect their investments.

Self-centered, spoiled and money centric.

But who can blame them since they were the first generation to send their parents off to old-folks homes and steal their money.

2. She doesn't understand the difference between Medicaid and Medicare.
Until that distinction is made clear and understood there is no point.

8. I hear shit like that all the time.
"My neighbor has a good job working for the city and they get Medicaid, $800 a month in food stamps, and a $3000 welfare check every month." I finally got sick of that shit and just started calling them on their lies. Calling someone a liar isn't a polite thing to do even if it is true, but I think it's time we stop letting these people make up their own reality. One of the reasons we're in this situation is because we don't demand the truth from the media and those in power.

14. More than likely she was confused about the difference between
Medicaid and Medicare. Her statement makes sense if she is thinking Medicare. Even here on DU we have had a lot of that.

18. Do you live in Texas like I do?
We've got a state full of stupid. Started a fence at the border and they ran out of money, Gov. Good Hair wanted to refuse stimulus money from the government, but took $17 million to fix the burned out governor's mansion, wants to cut 3 million people off of medicaid of which 75% are children and elderly and give them (ahem) state aid. Hey we will be around $18 billion yes BILLION dollars in the red according to the present budget projections and they keep electing these idiots. We have the highest sales tax rate, one of the highest property tax rates, but they brag and brag about how we don't have any state taxes. Well I lived in Missouri for years, and I can honesly say, I paid less taxes in that state than I do here. At least I could claim my state taxes on my federal as a deduction. But, roads, schools, water and clean air can just kiss their asses goodbye. Just had two "Democratic" congressmen elected from Democratic districts renounce their party affiliation and join the Repukes. I hope the people who elected them demand their resignations. What a bunch of cowardly fucks. Welcome to Republican hell. Texas used to have something to be proud of, not anymore.
