Kansas Rep. Pete DeGraaf: Being impregnated during a rape is just like getting a flat tire
Rape is often called the ultimate violation of self. A crime of absolute contempt for personal integrity, leaving the women caught in its wreckage to labor under the trauma for years. What reprehensible event could possibly have the same consequences as the spiritual dead zone rape victims are left in?

Well, getting a flat tire, according to Kansas state Rep. Pete DeGraaf.

Last Friday, Kansas legislators approved a ban on insurance companies offering abortion coverage as part of their general health plans. The one exception: when a woman's life is at risk.

DeGraaf, who is in his first term and who is an associate pastor, also called for banning coverage for abortions of rape pregnancies. (Women could get around this if they purchased separate, "abortion-only policies.")

3. Well, perhaps Mr. DeGraff needs to experience something.
A stint in prison with a cellmate named "Bubba" could accomplish that. Too bad he can't get pregnant, the little cocksucker.

7. He thinks being violated and forced to bear and raise
another's child is like getting a flat tire? Really?

And women are supposed to purchase abortion insurance? Because we all plan ahead for troubled, forced or unplanned pregnancy?

What the ??? Are republicans just trying to out asshole each other?

11. Well if you claim to be "pro-life" and think abortion is murder,
you SHOULD be against abortion in the case of rape. After all, biologically, the embryo/fetus/baby is no different than any other, right?

I always call anti-choicers (but pro-in-the-case-of-rape) on their contradictory position.

Of course, being anti-choice at all is an abhorrent, anti-women position.

23. He IS against abortion in all cases
including when the woman's life is supposedly in danger. I say "supposedly" because he apparently doesn't believe that happens. From his website: "Far too many babies have been killed on the pretense that the mother’s life is at risk." So, he's lying (I know, what a surprise) when he says he thinks women need to plan ahead in case of a pregnancy due to rape. His goal is to force all pregnant women to remain in that state until they either give birth or die.

He also seems to believe that it's God's will that he's in office: "I can see how God has been preparing me for this role through my years as a husband, father, Air Force pilot, financial counselor, pastor, volunteer, Precinct Committeeman, and non-profit board member." I know, that's another shocker. I never would have guessed. :eyes:

27. Sounds like he was/is unfit for all the positions he has held
"husband, father, Air Force pilot, financial counselor, pastor, volunteer, Precinct Committeeman, and non-profit board member"

They are all bad roles for him in my opinion.

Air Force pilot - can you imagine him one day flying around with a loaded plane and decide to bomb something not on orders
but because 'god' made his finger twitch

financial counselor - 'god' has instructed me to tell you to give me all your money and then use it to buy a gold statue of Jesus for his wife

volunteer - 'Hi, I'm here to help rebuild your home but first, are you...?'

Pastor - I'd hate to see what he dictates to his sheeple

father/husband - what kind of ideas does this guy have for his own family? They are probably being trained to be prayer warriors (pray for our enemies and then shoot them)

I already have bad migraines, but these people make my head hurt even more.

28. Well, that's apparently what his constituents wanted
at least the majority who voted for him. He was elected to legislate his (and their) repulsive and disgusting religious beliefs into law. As far as I'm concerned, everyone who voted for him is as evil as he is. He didn't hide what he's about and what his goals are.

I understand what you mean about your head hurting. With me it's my stomach - these people make me want to puke, and not figuratively, either. It is SO fucking depressing that we have to deal with this kind of shit in the fucking 21st century.

17. It wouldn't change his mind if it was his daughter.
I've seen it. Maybe if it was his wife.

Maybe if his wife contracted an STD it would matter to him.

24. Ah, more interference in the free market
The problem with people like DeGraaf is that even if he was grabbed by a person bigger, stronger, and more determined than him, dragged behind a parked car, and violently raped...

...until every orifice in his body was sore and bleeding, he wouldn't have to carry, birth, and raise the child of the man that raped him.

So his worst-case scenario is still far rosier than a woman's. Hooray for mankind.
