City told to raise salaries for police
City told to raise salaries for police

Akron police might be the only city employees to get raises this year.

A state conciliator has awarded the police union a 1.5 percent raise in April — and two more wage boosts next year under a binding report released Monday.

Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 7 President Paul Hlynsky said the decision is vindication of the union's contention that the city is simply not as broke as its financial experts insist.

....

Johnson's decision favored the city on the issue of health care. FOP members will be paying $20 or $40 a month for health care beginning in 2012. Previously, union members paid no monthly premiums.

FOP members also will lose $300 a year for fitness allowances. Instead, they will be able to use a city health club for free.

2. Darned fatcat public employees!
Imagine, negotiating wages and benefits instead of just taking what the boss deigns to "give" you! Why hasn't the Roberts Court declared collective bargaining to be unconstitutional? Oh Tea Baggers, where are you in our time of need?
