Does the GOP know what the American People want?
This is the question posed by Big Edie on his show.

Now let's be honest... if the American people mean you and me... yes they do, maybe but no way they will do it.

If you mean special interests? ABSOLUTELY... and they will do all they can to please them, all grandstanding about the middle class to the side

4. Actually if you remove all political labels
the American people are pretty consistent center left (for the US)

They like SS

They want world class public education.

They want infrastructure.

They want a middle class lifestyle.

Now start adding labels... and then the socialist label comes up and then they seem center right to far right.

The power of propaganda is quite strong in this country, and some of our attitudes go back 500 years or more.

3. The GOP serves the interests of the monied elite
All the other stuff is BS, designed to get votes from people they want nothing to do with.

5. They do not care.
Their mission is enabling corporate greed. Sadly, the American people are so involved in American Idol and reality shows, they care not about our country imploding.

8. I don't think most realize what is truly happening
and that suits the moneyed elites just fine thank you. The inevitable crash (perhaps this year courtesy of the GOP) will take most citizens by surprise.

10. No, but who does?
Reminds me of statements like, 'American Jews want/think/believe . . .'

12. Bad news: the American people spoke in November.
Edited on Tue Jan-04-11 07:39 PM by Davis_X_Machina
They said:

"We want to keep our GUNS!
And have every knee bend at Jesus' name!
And foreigners to tremble at our might!
And liberals to shut up and go away!
And women and faggots to know their place!
And people who sound different from us, and don't look like us, to be invisible!
And be able to keep all of our money. That we earned!
And all change to stop! Now! Forever!"

And the GOP listened -- so they won.

Here's the problem -- no matter how delightful people are, taken one by one, in the aggregate they, we, are basically shits. That's human nature.

You have a political party predicated on appealing to the worst in people, you're always going to start half a lap ahead. 2006 was an anomaly, and 2008 was a miracle.

13. 'Maybethe voters missed the entertainment value of the hard-hearted, compulsively destructive G.O.P.
Edited on Tue Jan-04-11 08:05 PM by elleng
Maybe they viewed them the way audiences saw the larger-than-life villains in old-time melodramas. It must be something like that because it’s awfully hard to miss the actual policies of a gang that almost wrecked the country.'
