7. If you used to be black and are now white, then you can make a comparison.

2. Other: I would pay to introduce Boojatta to RBTexLA and buy them dinner
as long as I could watch it on a webcam and discuss it with fellow DUers.

3. Uh... What?
The only person I know of who did that is Michael Jackson and I'm pretty sure he's not on DU. Or alive. What's the point of this poll?

18. Boojatta is making a point about white people who seem to think
they are good judges of how much racism black people face in this country, maybe?

6. I guess this makes racism pretty darn clear. Skin color does affect perception in America.

9. Other: we all used to be black but some are now white.
A mutation millenia ago.

But there was no racial bias until a few hundred years ago.

10. Two ethnomusicolgy professors at college
once said:
"I thought, if we went back far enough, we were all Africans."
the other:
"And I thought we were all Jewish."

They did make incredible music together.

16. A white guy wrote a book about his experience as a black man.
It was in the 60's, "Black like Me" I believe was the title. He shaved his head and stained his skin.

22. Good book. It was required reading at my high school. This poll isn't as odd
as you might think -- there ARE people who were once black and are now white. I have a black friend who is quite light skinned, and she told me that she had a number of relatives who, after growing up black, left the area and spent the rest of their lives "passing" as white. Now, THOSE are the people who could answer that poll.

Jonathan Yardley at the Washington Post wrote a good article about it a few years ago.

Also good, is the movie Watermelon Man starring Godfrey Cambridge as a white man who wakes up one morning in brown skin.
