Which was fought in 1953 by French forces and the Viet Minh.

The First Indochina War.

----------------------------------------------------------------

OK - the challenge is to tell me a story in four lines focusing on this picture.

It could be anything...but use this picture as your focal point

Am I a creative writing instructor?

No but I know how to write

Have Fun!

1. Once I get past the image of these guys in these shorty shorts
Fluffy shorts...cheerleader skirt looking shorty shorts...I just might.

Man I am really REALLY glad to be living in an era where men don't wear shorty shorts.

No. No No. Hairy upper man thigh is NOT something we want to see on a daily basis.... No.

2. It was a dark and stormy night
Somewhere in the darkness, a door slammed. The maid screamed.

Meanwhile, outside, a shirtless bunch of gits in shorts and funny hats waited for a photographer...

3. I was almost out of film, and almost out of time.
My injury wasn't severe but it was enough to have me sent home, in a few hours I would be on my way.

It took some doing, but I was able to talk the guys into posing for a picture.

You would be surprised at what grown men would do for those few creature comforts I was willing to part with, now that I was going home.

The little vehicle had gotten us out more than a few jams.....

And when we finally found a few minutes of down time, and all the guys were within earshot, it was time to finally get a photo of the group.

What better backdrop than the faithful, little tracked amphib that had saved our necks over and over.

Doris. We'll never forget her.

8. We stood outside the VD clinic in our shorts.
As we waited for treatment for the clap we all recalled the training films we had viewed in basic training.

We all kept up a calm demeanor even as we each anticipated the horror that awaited us inside.

Would any of us have to suffer the pain, indignities and humiliation of "the hook"?

Mate, I don't care what war archive that photo came out of. Those blokes are dinki-bloody-di Australian. No one else has the panache for bare chests and those shorts.

10. Georges and Henri chose to stay with the unit after Tourbillon.
The rest of us could not wait to take advantage of our rotation out of Indochine.
I was in a cafe in Giverny, less than a year later when I heard of their demise
with all of the others at Dien Bien Phu.

26. No prob - and I like the Dien Bien Phu tie in
The French were quite literally massacred there.

And I think they ended up taking more French POWs that never returned than we had - but I'm not sure.

13. Things were winding down.
The days passed rather happily. Only the Captain seemed

morose, he didn't look forward to sitting at a desk again.

Home less a dream now, fresh bread and perhaps butter too.

Even the laundry girl knew she would not likely see us again.

I didn't mind, I wasn't that busy.
The challenge was to make up a four line story.
So I figure the mook that posted it wanted me to do their homework.

Jimmy: Mook? I'm a mook?
Joey 'Clams' Scala: Yeah
Jimmy: What's a mook?
Johnny Boy: A mook, what's a mook?
Tony DeVienazo: I don't know...
Johnny Boy: What's a mook?
Jimmy: You can't call me a mook!
Joey 'Clams' Scala: I can't?
Jimmy: No...
Joey 'Clams' Scala: {pause} I'll give you mook!
{punches Jimmy in the face}

19. My name is Emmanuel.
How it is I know not; but there is no place like the inside of a M-43 armored personel carrier for confident disclosures between man and man. Man and man, they say, there open the very bottom of their souls to each other; and some old couples often lie and chat over old times till nearly morning. Thus, then, in our hearts' honeymoon, lay I and Jean, Vincent, Jeaques, Itchy, Michel, Eduoard and Psychoboy —a cosy, loving few.

I might have plagirized a little.

22. Mes amis, the best indication of the winning side in a war is the number of smokers, above all pipes
Look at World War 2: FDR had his cigarettes, Churchill his cigars, and Uncle Joe his pipe, while that bastard Hitler tried to ban smoking.
These Vietnamese, what do they know of the delights of Gitanes and Old Parisian Shag?
I tell you, we are invincible!
