Time magazine update: Mark Zuckerberg beat Tea Party, Julian Assange, Hamid Karzai, Chile miners to win accolade

Meet the second-youngest individual ever to be named TIME magazine’s Person of the Year: Mark Zuckerberg, co-founder of the omnipresent social-networking site Facebook.

You may feel as though you already know the 26-year-old. If you regularly use a computer, you probably interact with Zuckerberg’s Facebook empire on at least some level.

And maybe you’ve seen the acclaimed movie “The Social Network,” which portrays Zuckerberg as socially stunted, calculating and arrogant.

But is there more to this story? Yes, TIME editors discovered — and that’s what prompted the magazine to choose the multibillionaire CEO for the Person of the Year distinction.

3. What a joke. Assange is so far above the contenders for affecting world events.

5. I think it's a great choice,
Facebook has had a tremendous impact on our society. And Zuckerberg has been donating huge amounts of his fortune to charity.

7. An act of COWARDICE. I agree with this commenter on TIME's website:

By showing outstanding cowardice, insulting its own readers and every journalist who takes his profession seriously, Time magazine has proven today that it does not deserve the name News magazine. I hope that every journalist who has a bit of professional pride will henceforth cease to cooperate with Time in any way, as Time has discredited itself today and can join the ranks of Fox News as News inventors, instead of News reporters.

This display of claqueurism is outright sickening. Even more embarrassing and a clear sign of poor judgement of Time Magazine's Management is to select Mark Zuckerberg as posterboy. Do you honestly think that your readers are this stupid? Exchanging one nerd by another to please the tech-crowd, because you're afraid of retaliations?

Time magazine is a willing slave of the US government with no ability to think or act independently, like the independent press should. Time magazine is unable and unwilling to adhere to journalistic principles and therefore I really wonder why anybody in the world would want to read such a useless rag.
