Man tries to Kill Members of Town Board
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/40674270/ns/us_news-crime_and_courts/

A terrible and desperate act. I am thankful that he was unable to injure anyone. As people become more desperate, you will see more things of this sort I fear.

He left this message:

My testament: Some people (the government sponsored media) will say I was evil, a monster (V) ... no ... I was just born poor in a country where the Wealthy manipulate, use, abuse, and economically enslave 95 percent of the population. Rich Republicans, Rich Democrats ... same-same ... rich ... they take turns fleecing us ... our few dollars ... pyramiding the wealth for themselves."

1. once again - too many guns - and in the wrong hands
saw a video of this yesterday - and the school board president is very lucky - that gun was pointed directly at him from a distance of 8 feet or so.

6. I think this is less a gun issue; though the article does mention
he was an ex-convict.

2. Unfortunately this was bound to happen and I am waiting so see it here
I work for the Planning Board in my town and we have NO shortage of Teabagger types. Even if they aren't necessarily Teabaggers we have a HUGE number of anti-government anti-tax extremely angry anti-regulation people. I have mace in my desk and a panic button on the wall because of some of the verbal altercations that have taken place in my office in the past that I have been afraid would turn physical. And the people of the town feel that as municipal employees, its our job to put up with it. I honestly think it is only a matter of time before one of these WHACKADOOS finally comes to a meeting and shoots it up. I just hope no one gets killed!

5. I hate it that
what you say, is something I thought myself.

We need to find a way to tone down the rhetoric and channel the anger.

7. In my opinion his rhetoric is dead on, even if his
actions were extreme.

10. doesn't matter- how "dead on" his rhetoric is/was. He is DEAD

And no one is the better for what he did.

The ultimate weakness of violence is that it is a descending spiral,
begetting the very thing it seeks to destroy.
Instead of diminishing evil, it multiplies it.
Through violence you may murder the liar,
but you cannot murder the lie, nor establish the truth.
Through violence you may murder the hater,
but you do not murder hate.
In fact, violence merely increases hate.
So it goes.
Returning violence for violence multiplies violence,
adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars.
Darkness cannot drive out darkness:
only light can do that.
Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

9. it happened in here, 17yrs. ago
I'll never forget that day.
It's NOT your job to "put up with it".
I'm glad you have a panic button on the wall.

13. the link says school board, not town board
but it does sound like he is blaming the government too. Who fleeces us - Republicans and Democrats in his eyes. Not the corporations, not the other Kochs, no, "Government IS the problem."
