For more than two hours, 47 people took to the microphone to express two clearly defined, often religious-based views on the issue.

Most told a three-member City Council task force they favored the ordinance. But others said the measure would flout biblical morals, create an unneeded bureaucracy and lead to voter backlash.

The proposal has exposed rifts in this college town of 13,561, located in the Appalachian foothills about 40 miles south of Lexington.

To me, this dismal story brings out the cold, frustrating reality of the fairness struggle in so many local areas.
(Due to the Berea College population, this may pass).
