What is to stop the R's from making Grover Norquist CBO head?
The Republicans are NOT happy about CBO's announcement that Health Care Reform isn't going to destroy the world. So...since the current guy isn't giving the answers they want, and it only takes one house to remove him, what would prevent them from removing the current CBO head and replacing him with a supply-side extremist?

1. I believe that the current CBO chief has announced his departure
Selection of his replacement will probably get contentious.

2. The CBO is only relevant so long as they have respect from both sides.
While Republicans disagree with the CBO's assumptions, they still respect the CBO's head and do not personally attack him.

If either side started putting partisans in that position, no one would care what the CBO had to say anymore, and it would become irrelevant.

5. They do not control the senate.
"The Speaker of the House of Representatives and the President pro tempore of the Senate jointly appoint the CBO Director, after considering recommendations from the two budget committees."

6. Uhh...try again...
While the Republicans do not officially control the Senate, they seem to be quite capable of getting any damn thing they want. You don't think the fuckers wouldn't be willing to shut down the country until they got exactly the CBO head they wanted in there?

7. uhh.. try reading.
your question has been completely answered in the negative. Without control of the Senate, and this has NOTHING to do with filibusters or republican bluster - they cannot appoint Grover Norquist.

11. He didn't, at least not yet
But think: if you were trying to destroy the country by cutting the government to nothing, who's better?
