Political Toon from 1921. The more things change...

LLOYD DANGLE :
My friend Warren Bernard, who works at the Library of Congress, sent me this Art Young cartoon from 1921. It works just as well today. Notice the heavy use of labels...there's one on every damn thing in the drawing!

2. The head of the GOP elephant is very small.
Symbolism rich, just like in real life.

Thank you, n2doc. Cartoons are truth in picture form.

Roosevelt died in 1919.

end the Gilded Age.

4. What strikes me most is how the donkey is hiding under a blanket at the door
of the tent cowering. Just goes to show those who ignore the past are doomed to repeat the past mistakes. D's had the same image problem in 1921 as they do today.

11. You mentioned the symbolism: can anyone read the words on the
smaller objects? Wonder if they are as relevant today as then?

12. On the left, from the top down
The press (Looks like an orchestra up there playing, with the conductor and tubas, etc.)
For Jobs
For Militarism
For graft (I think)
For the benefit of big business

Uncle Sam is labeled 'The People'

Well, they are conservative and conservatives don't like change.
