http://www.wtok.com/news/headlines/Contributions_and_Congressional_Voting_124498199.htmlJust how influential is money when it comes to votes cast on Capitol Hill by elected leaders from Mississippi?
With money lining political trails to the nation's Capitol, political voting records are often inspected. Using online research and a database from maplight.org, we put Mississippi's congressional delegation to the test and the numbers weren't so surprising to the site's executive director, Daniel Newman.
"I think it's a wake up call to the ordinary citizens, just how pervasive the influence of money is in politics," Newman said.
Looking at their voting records and campaign contributions, we wanted to see how many times their vote was in line with a contributor's position on any given piece of legislation within 30 days of the contribution being made; some votes happened the same day.
Sen. Thad Cochran with 299 instances, voted in line with a contributor's position 95.9 percent of the time.
Sen. Roger Wicker, with 1,207 instances came in at 83.8 percent.
