John Kennedy -- Assassination
Bobby Kennedy -- Assassination
Tom Daschle -- Anthrax
Patrick Leahy -- Anthrax
Paul Wellstone -- Mysterious crash
Rep. Giffords shot in Tucson

I want to know more about this guy who shot Giffords. Right now I'm holding out on the theory that it's domestic terrorism because it will affect all Democratic politicians.

On edit: We still don't know if the Maryland package sent to Napolitano is also on this list, but it's now suspect.

4. I'm going with sitting politicians.
People who could push forward programs, just like the one that MLK believed in.

6. I just don't see the same things happening to the Republicans.
Reagan was shot by a known head case.

I want to know more about the guy who shot this congresswoman, because if it turns out he's right-wing I wouldn't have any trouble reaching the conclusion that right-wing politics are driving people to violence.

Just listen to Glenn Beck. The man oozes of violence when he constantly talks about being fed up with liberals and progressives.

16. Until we can match up consequences with the words, they'll keep
using free speech as a cover. Only when we can show a correlation between their hate talk and these kinds of events, will we manage to get them to rethink their violent rhetoric.

7. That 6 people over a 50 year period. And how can you have Wellstone on that list? It was a plane
crash in the same manner as Ted Stevens. What about Republicans? I noticed you don't have Reagan's shooting on the list. Or Eric Cantor's death threat from last year. I understand where you're coming from. But partisan picking and choosing is annoying.

Though I think that they all get death threats at one point of another. Let's make a list and compare.

11. Jesse Helms told a newspaper
that if Clinton came to North Carolina, he'd better bring a bodyguard.

Ann Coulter wrote in one of her books that the only choices left with Clinton were "to impeach or assassinate".

Neither, of course, were frogmarched away for some quality time with the Secret Service.

It's part of the Republican Exception. They can get away with that sort of shit.

15. It is naive and foolish to think this violence is anything but politically motivated
Palin, Limbaugh, Beck, Fox News, Boehner, McConnell and their ilk all have blood on their hands now. They now have their first shot in a new civil war.

29. Except, JFK's assassin was a self-professed Marxist, and Sirhan Sirhan was a Palestinian nationalist
Further, Paul Wellstone didn't die in a "mysterious crash": both the FBI and the NTSB concluded that it was an accident, and no foul play of any kind was involved.

Please try again.

without questioning them. I read Against all Enemies.

The point is, their credibility is iffy.

35. I used to believe that too. However, when one looks at the evidence,
it's easier to believe that Oswald himself worked for the CIA.

He "defected" to the USSR, renounced his US citizenship, publicly claimed to tell the Soviets state secrets and then was welcomed back to the US two years later with no trial at the height of the Cold War.

Does that make sense?

He said he was a Marxist when he pretended to work for the Fair Play for Cuba Committee . . . what he effectively did was to discredit them, as ordered.

36. To be fair, it's not just Liberals who get targeted
although they're by far the majority.

George Wallace was shot by Arthur Bremer during the 1972 campaign when Wallace was challenging Nixon.
George Lincoln Rockwell was shot to death in 1967, probably by a former supporter.
Gerald Ford was shot at by Sara Jane Moore in San Francisco in 1975, not long after Squeaky Fromme pointed a gun at him.
