Anybody who's just dodged a bullet--whether actual or metaphorical--tries to make some sense out of it.

He didn't seem all that weird to me when I saw him on TV. And he's not hurting anyone else by believing this. Why waste your ire on him rather than condemning the shooter, or the father and girlfriend who apparently murdered the children? Strange set of priorities you're showing here!
