His obsession with US currency may be linked to the removal of the US from the gold standard. I can't imagine a 22 year old would be obsessed with Rothbardian economics, but it is what it is. On monetary issues he appears a Libertarian.

While some of the views expressed by Mr. Loughner could be considered Libertarian, he could never be a Libertarian as he clearly did not oppose the initiation of force.
