Subject: UPDATE: Arizona Killings/Congresswoman Giffords

CNN reports Jared Lee Loughner is the name of the 22-yr. old man who was the gunman who shot 18 people today, including Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D) Arizona. Loughner remains in custody.

CNN further reports Cong. Giffords is out of surgery and is responding to physician commands - which is phenomenal considering she was shot in the head at point blank range hours ago with a 9MM automatic pistol, with an extended ammo clip attached. Doctors say they are "optimistic" about her recovery. Earlier today, Cong. Giffords was virtually pronounced dead by the media, including NPR, who did declare Giffords dead.

Gabrielle "Gabby" Giffords is married to a NASA astronaut who was sheduled to launch very soon. Cong. Giffords is known as a "moderate" in political circles.

Or if the bullet penetrated the skull. She may have been grazed buy the bullet. That might explain why it's reported that she was moving when taken on the stretcher to the helicopter.

We really don't know jack yet. Maybe by tomorrow the news will be more coherent.

6. The head of the trauma unit operating on her said the bullet went

through and through her brain. Dr. Peter Rhee also said he's as optimistic as he can be about her condition. That she was responding to initial commands.

A little 9 year old girl was killed and a Federal Judge. I think I heard that 6 people were killed.
