Judge rejects Willie Nelson plea deal in pot case
(07-06) 16:07 PDT El Paso, Texas (AP) --

A judge has rejected a plea deal that would have resolved Willie Nelson's marijuana possession case in West Texas with a fine, saying the country singer shouldn't get what she considers special treatment.

Nelson was arrested in November after a Border Patrol agent said 6 ounces of marijuana were found on Nelson's tour bus.

Hudspeth County Judge Becky Dean-Walker told The Associated Press on Wednesday that she rejected prosecutor Kit Bramblett's suggestion that Nelson resolve the case by pleading guilty and paying a $500 fine for possession of drug paraphernalia.

Dean-Walker claims the prosecutor "doesn't do that for anybody else."

The judge says Nelson should be charged with the misdemeanor marijuana possession, which carries up to a year in jail.

2. Six ounces for anyone else would be possession with intent to distribute..
And I'm willing to bet it would not be a misdemeanor either.

4. The Judge claims the prosecutor "doesn't do that for anybody else." So, go ahead, do it for all.
Willy doesn't deserve this. Nor do the others.

6. Yesterday a judge in Jamaica fined a popular
singer J$100 for smoking a spliff near the courthouse.

<snip>
Veteran singer Eric Donaldson was fined $100JA or 10 days in jail when he appeared in court this morning.

The Multiple winner of the JCDC festival song competition who is most popular for the single "Mr. Cherry O Baby" paid the $100 dollar putting an end to his lingering ganja charge.

Eric Donaldson was arrested and charged with breaches of the Dangerous Drugs Act on June 15 after police say while on patrol they observed the singer allegedly smoking what turned out to be a ganja spliff in an open lot near the Spanish Town Courthouse

I love the comments. We're delighted that Jamaican judges are using their brains and reducing fines and not locking up people for rubbish.
The prisons are already overloaded.

Why would anyone arrest a seventy year old man for smoking ganja. It's ridiculous.
