Kitten Tossed from Car, Rescued on Verrazano Bridge - Truckers aid by blocking traffic
Edited on Wed Jul-06-11 09:55 PM by RamboLiberal
A tiny kitten survived a harrowing ordeal on the Verrazano Bridge after the feline was thrown from a moving car, landing near the edge of the bridge before being rescued by a passing animal control officer.

The officer was transporting animals to a Staten Island facility on Saturday and saw the gray kitten thrown out of the window, Animal Care & Control of NYC said Wednesday.

The officer quickly pulled the vehicle over to try and rescue the kitten, which was found near the edge of the bridge. Passing truck drivers stopped to help block traffic while the rescue occurred, animal control officials said.

The kitty was brought back to the animal care facility where his age was estimated at five months and he was named Verrazano.

Ahhhh - may you find a good forever home Verrazano where you don't have to use any of your remaining 8 lives.

1. You would not what to see what would have happened if I had been there and been able to get my hands
on whoever threw that cat out of the window. Seriously.

3. You and me both
But I think either of us would stop to save the kitten before giving that asshole what s/he so richly deserves. :hi:

I don't think I could do the fine job rescuers that go to peoples homes do, so I am SO THANKFUL to those that can. I'd be in jail in no time. No time at all.

17. I've said as much about folks who dump puppies on my rural road
I'm glad I haven't caught someone in the act of dumping puppies, grown dogs, nursing mothers and their litter...I can't keep every one that's been dumped, but every dog I have kept have been dumped dogs.

20. Same here
I will just say that it begins with a baseball bat wrapped in barbed wire and goes from there.

I hope that precious little cat finds a wonderful home.

2. 5 months? That doesn't look like a 5 months old kitten.
More like 5 weeks.

22. Could be a typo, but I've seen very undernourished cats that look
much younger because of assholes like whoever dumped this sweetie.

4. Why are people this way? I really will never be able to understand it
Even if one doesn't want to find a home for an unwanted animal, then take it to a shelter. And if this was someone's idea of "fun", I hope they can track them down.

25. Sometimes it's a vindicative move against a human.
For example, a domestic squabble where one decides to punish the other by disposing of a pet. Some people are just cruel.

Kitten Rescued from Bridge in Freezing Temperature

Jan 2, 2010

There have been many cases of cat abandonment on the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge in Staten Island, New York, but this time the story had a good, happy ending.

A bridge maintenance worker, Ryan Laks was working on his routine checkup on the upper level of the bridge in freezing temperature where the wind slammed him at 50 mph.

While he was working against the relentless weather, he spotted a kitten clinging helplessly to the road, trying not to be knocked over by the wind. Laks grabbed the kitten and transported her back to the office. . . .

Four other kittens were rescued by the bridge officers back in 2008 where they were tossed out of a moving vehicle.

10. WANT
I'm in NYC right now and if this kitty were old enough to bring home (local news says he's 5 weeks, not 5 months), he'd be a Cali kitty tout suite!

26. with the backlighting, can't tell whether kitty's eyes are blue or green.
Edited on Thu Jul-07-11 11:12 AM by okasha
The perspective of the photo's weird, and I think makes his head look larger in proportion to his body than it actually is. Five months is possible; at five weeks the face is usually a bit rounder than this, and the ears smaller in proportion.

And oh, yeah. Lady Bastet, visit some major karma on the perpetrator, please.
