Trial balloon... perhaps this is a TRIAL BALLOON
so send your missives to the wh... here is mine

So the terrorists win? Is that it? To save the village we got to burn the village?

Entitlements are not the problem in this. Outside of DC we understand this. Taxes, or rather who pays for them are the problem. To use the language of the hostage takers, while you protect the wealthy you are effectively going to raise taxes on the middle class and the poor.

Good going!

This is what happens when you negotiate with terrorists and religious fanatics...and yes the low tax mantra is a religion, trickle down is a religion... it is time to stand on principles.

Oh and yes I am fully aware of what will happen if the debt ceiling is not raised... you gave them that hand grenade...

For the record, come 2012 I do not think you have my vote Mr. President. This decision will, in effect, cost you the election.

Nadin

And here is the addy

Go at it... not that quite frankly it will make any difference... yes I have given up. Yet I try, I know.

1. Taxes were already raised on those making less than $20,000 per year..
So part of your prediction has already come true..

4. absolutely and it is time we the people take to the streets
I think there is something else going on.

(And for the record the Tea Party are nutbags and extreme, but they will play a role in this)

The parties are doing what they do every so often in US History... The Democrats are going back to their business friendly attitudes, and yes the DLC has taken over the party. They WILL be the party of business before long, this will be clear as day even to the average voter who only pays attention for three weeks of the voting cycle.

Now the Rs will not remain Rs by name... like the Whigs, a faction will splinter. a more moderate faction, a more populist faction... in 1852 that was the GOP... it will be by another name. Yep, in a generation or so... I don't think progressives will be voting for Democrats... and in a duopoly both parties essentially standing for the
same, open the way for this. But no, at this point I don't see much light between the two parties. Now MEMBERS of the parties, yes... but the dominant factions in both parties not really.

Oh and if the Repubs nominate a crazy... OR we have a third party run... then Obama might win... if they nominate a more "moderate" republican... I don't think so.

6. Mine was much shorter --
You give away One More Thing, Mr. President, and I'm giving away my vote to anybody else. Thank you.

(Not true, but all they care about is votes and contributions.)

10. the whole thing seems crazy to me
The polls show taxing rich popular, cutting social security is never popular with those most likely to vote, medicare cost controls might be need in the future, but why would anyone do this before their second term? Particularly if you lost the last election cycle based on jobs and fear of Obama care cutting medicare. How will cutting government spending and cutting medicare create more jobs? Why save the country from a made up economic disaster (seriously congress passes debt increases like the pass out pay raises for themselves until they need a fake crisis), only to create a real economic disaster with massively cut needed programs to keep two er three pointless wars and tax cuts for the rich. I mean the best he gets is an end to loopholes, as if some how companies won't figure out quickly new loopholes that were not filled.

2010 Dems ran away from their sitting presidents platform and got killed. Cutting social security means they HAVE to do it again. So even if he wins he gets a Republican senate and house. Which means 4 more years of horrible economy.

All you can hope for is it was a fake out for independent voters who like the Obama who is willing to compromise.

11. The US Political system has had way too many WTF moments
since 2000. We left the normal political discourse really in 1996 and it is just becoming more twilight zone by the year.

I HOPE it is a trial balloon, because if they do go ahead and do this... and trust me, I know what will happen to the economy... Obama will not be reelected...and the terrorists will go ahead and cave it anyway, in my view. The only way to kill all those programs truly... is to make sure we TRULY CANNOT afford them.

And no, they have not connected the dot that it will crash the empire and lead to other problems... it is not that they are stupid, they are not. It is just that this is religion... any longer.

15. Your options are simple
do nothing...
OR TRY.

And trust me.. I AM about to give up..

There is a third one... TAKE TO THE DAMN STREET... and no, the media will not cover it. They did not in the 1930s... so what is new?
