A DEMOCRATIC president is going to end what saved
Edited on Thu Jul-07-11 12:02 AM by senseandsensibility
old people from a life of poverty? For what? Why? I can not support this. I will not.

So...what are we going to do about it?

64. But Nancy Pelosi said she wasn't going to support the debt ceiling raising
bill, if it's going to be at the expense of Medicare and SS. And John
Boehner needs the support of the Democrats in order to have his bill
passed through Congress. I must say I'm somewhat surprised at Nancy's
tough stand.

So, we'll have to wait and see how things turn out.

8. Aha ... we're finally talking about Plan B ... Wow!!! Let's go ...!!
We have a Democratic Party infiltrated by Koch Bros. funded DLC

over a 20 year period - corrupting its agenda, the issues --

its candidates and its presidential candidates --

The power of this elite wealth is emboldening the power grab --

We'd better be discussing this and finding a way out -- quickly.

This is corporate/fascism --

The Rise of the Fourth Reich --

And our biggest problem -- being confirmed by sane members of our MIC --

is Global Warming.

21. Can we even say what's left of the party after Koch Bros. DLC has finished with it?
What did they leave behind after 20 years?

Did they leave anything behind beyond the name?

Given how you are feeling now, wouldn't you expect Democratic politicians to be

feeling some of what you're feeling? A few in the liberel causus may stand up --

but how many and what does that message convey to us about the rest of the Democrats?

As far as I can see this attack by Obama on Social Security and Medicare -- COLA's --

beyond his attacks on public education, teachers, unions in pushing Charter schools --

will DESTROY THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY --

Can we suggest that Obama and the Democrats don't know that?

Many will believe what Obama has told them ... you have "no place to go" --

Corporate/fascism isn't going to end here any more than the Koch DLC has ended --

it will continue on to the right -- to "Third Way" to PPI, to PNAC -- on and on.

42. Think it is everyone ....
here now saying all together "enough!" and "Who are you kidding?" --

Think many are realizing debate has to move on to what we're going to do about

all of this, rather than dealing with those who still believe in the chess game

and keeping the lid on things here.

Never should principles be tossed aside to protect a political party --

Obama has had two years and more to show us who he is -- what he stands for --

what he cares about --

What we've seen is highly worrisome --

Thank you --

31. I have my vote and my money and they both go to Democratic candidates who...
Reinforce Social Security/Medicare/Medicaid and raise taxes on the uber-wealthy. Any candidate, Democratic, Republican, or otherwise who plays with these essential programs, using them as pawns in a political, ideological war, will have neither my vote nor my money at any point, ever. There is no leeway and there is no compromise that will gain my support. If a race comes down to a Democrat and a Republican and the Democrat was in favor of cutting these programs and/or not raising taxes, I will not vote. I will not vote for a Republican or a wolf in sheep's clothing. I will not accept cuts to these essential programs and I will not accept that the wealthy will not pay for the damage they have caused this nation. And I will not accept, fund, or vote for candidates of any party, regardless of their competition, who believe otherwise. Period.

55. I still think the
wage limit should be raised. That would solve everything. And I would be willing to have SS 'means-tested.'

After all it is an INSURANCE program.

When you buy house insurance, do you demand all of your money back when it doesn't burn down and you've sold it?

People who have income over a certain amount should have their SS taxed....they don't need it. They should be jumping up and down and be happy that they don't need it.

No one can predict the future. No one knows if they'll truly need SS when they are old. It's INSURANCE!

I wish more people would understand this....

Only a tiny fraction of people. The people retiring in the coming decades have suffered from thirty years of an assault on working people. They have no company pensions, no savings, no healthcare..... The vast majority will need their benefits more than ever.

Expecially if measures like what Femrap suggested are undertaken.

It's important not to panic. The media LOVES to sensationalize and stir up shit causing problems. It sells papers, and works to manipulate the masses.

I don't believe Pres. Obama is going to destroy Social Security.

I understand the fear, and the places fear can take us, but we need to not play into the hands of those who scream "it's the end of life as we know it".

71. I think you can say "need a challenger from the left"
But if you say "vote third party", your post will be deleted. :-( (still time to edit)
